I am cancelling tonight's dinner at Jardim De Portugal (Restaurante) in Coral Gables.
I realize the place is a "mom and pop", but everything with them seems to be an issue. To allof our members-yes this is dissapointing. I was really looking forward to it myself. I don't want to put together a group event where members may have a bad experience. With the initial problems they seem to be having, I can only logically expect there to be additonal issues once we show up.
First they didn't want us to order off menu (they wanted us to choose from select dishes only-too much trouble for the Chef)... REALLY??? Come on!!!
What happens when you have 20 individual people show up? Or capacity of 40? Your going to tell them they can't order from the menu?
I told them that the who point of the dinner was to EXPERIENCE and TRY new things.
I was canceling when I was informed that the owner relented and agreed we could order what we want. Again-I understand (smaller place) but it NEVER should have been an issue to start with.
Then this morning I get a call demanding to know how long our group was going to stay. When I told him I had no idea (we are a social group after all), he told him he HAD TO HAVE A TIME, so I gave him 1 hour.
After we hung up I mulled it over a bit; and really, really thought about it-if they treat our group like this now-how will we be treated once we are there? I honestly don't think any better. My concern is that after 1 hpour these guys are going to be pressuring us to leave. LOL, we aren't even there yet and they are pressuring us out of the door.
I know they had another group of 10 people coming at the same time-I wonder; did they get the same call?
So to Jardim De Portugal-You took what should have been a pleasant experience (plus good for advertisement since our group has over 1,000 local Miami members on MeetUp.com) and turned it into a dissapointing experience from the start.
Most places are THRILLED to have our group and the exposure-I wish your restaurant was as accomidating to it's clientelle.
To our members: I am truly sorry and dissapointed myself!
