Trail Running at Amelia Earhart Park

Why run on pavement when you can run on crazy mountain bike trails? I am fortunate to have a flexible schedule and do this during the week. I will also be posting trail running meetups on the weekend. If you are a beginner that is fine, you can run/walk at your own pace. The trails are full of obstacles and can be challenging if you have never tried it before, please take it slow and pay attention to the path in front of you, it is easy to twist an ankle or fall if you are not careful.

Starting early in the morning the trails are usually pretty empty, but you are sharing these paths with mountain bikers, do remember to watch out for them and stand aside when they want to pass. The advanced section has many tight turns/hills and most bikers WILL NOT SEE YOU so you need to be aware of when they are coming. It is better to run with NO HEADPHONES so you can hear bikers, RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK. Trail running is tons of fun, but you need to be safe as well. Walkers also welcome.

***PLEASE pay attention to the trail arrows, DO NOT run in the opposite direction or you could have a collision with a cyclist.

Amelia has a total of 7.6 miles of trails so you can choose how far you want to run. If you are training for a marathon or tri, trail running is great training that will make you much faster on the pavement. It is lower impact and develops a lot more muscles than regular running.

MEETING PLACE: We will be meeting at the entrance to the mountain bike trails.

When you go through the main entrance to the park follow the road around, when it curves to the LEFT take the gravel road after the DOG PARK and that will take you to the parking lot for the trails.  I will only wait 10 minutes before starting, if you are LATE you can run at your own pace.

Bring plenty of WATER, mosquito repellent, bathing suit if you want to jump in the lake afterwards, and a change of clothes if you want to be clean later.
