Rochester Big, Bright Lights Photowalk 2013

December means the holidays are here and so are local holiday light shows. Downtown Rochester goes all out with The Big, Bright Light Show. Opening night this year is Monday December 2nd. Join the merchants of downtown Rochester when they offer their customers Lagniappe (Creole for “a little something extra”) in appreciation for their support throughout the year! There will be a Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and reindeer, as well as free carriage rides downtown. This is the eighth year for this tradition and should be bigger and brighter than ever as more than 1.5 million lights adorn the buildings along Main Street in Downtown Rochester. I am planning on exploring and shooting throughout the evening. The sun sets at about 5:00 PM. Twilight and the Blue Hour are great times to shoot city scenes...We can shoot 'till 9:00 or so. DON'T WORRY IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT BY 6:00 ...SHOW UP WHEN YOU CAN and you can catch up with us...THEY TURN THE LIGHTS ON AT 7:00 PM. I'll email all registrants my cell phone number...If anyone's interested we can grab a bite to eat afterwards. Dress warmly...I'll be happy to assist with camera settings etc as necessary...All skill levels are welcome!

It was an interesting night. I got a couple shots that I'm happy with. I'll go back at a time when there is less traffic.

Like Sharp Mann I didn't recognize at the RMBC parking lot and moved on to battle the crowded sidewalks.

Didn't see anyone I could recognize.
Waited at the parking lot of the beer co. till after 6, then moved and setup tripod on Main, just 100 feet south of Santa's stage.

Nearly froze to death, lol ... Too much traffic, too many cars, nearly impossible to take a good picture, and of course I was not going to stay any longer (my hands and feet were frozen, literally).
My guest was getting very cold too. I'm going to bed now, and will wake up at the end of April :)

I'm recovering from a cold. I think I need to stay inside instead of traipsing around in the cold :(

He can always follow. Just make sure you leave him 2 copies of the directions (since he is a male) :)

I'm meeting a friend at the library at 4:30.
How long will you be at the Mill Beer Co.?
Is the photography part at Main/Rochester?

Speaking of Christmas lights, there is a house in Royal Oak that has been featured on TV and in various news publications for many years.
I was passing by the area yesterday, during day time, and that house is already packed with decorations.

The amount of lights and ornaments is beyond belief (for a house), and, at night, you'd see cars from all over the area coming to see the incredible show this house puts out during this time of the year, often times creating a traffic jam.

I saw the owner once in an interview on TV describing how he had to go through some major upgrades to his power line in order to handle all his lights, ornaments, and figurines!
    Now you can imagine!

If anyone is interested to drive by and take pictures at some time between now and the new year, the location is at the south-west corner of Washington and 12Mile.
