Wildflower Walkabout at Saginaw Wetlands Nature Sanctuary

This free tour will have an MNA guide to show us where the wildflowers are. Michigan Nature Association (MNA) scheduled several wildflower walkabouts throughout the state of Michigan. They know when the wildflowers are at their peak.

So bring your tripods and macro lenses to shoot spectacular wildflowers! This sanctuary features lady slippers and neotropical warblers (birds?). I believe this may also be a geocacheing site as well.

I haven't been able to find an actual address yet but I am still looking. I will add it in as soon as I find it. All I can find out is it's in Huron County near Sebewaing.

We we disappointed that the focus of the guide was primarily birding and the lack of flowers to photograph. If it had been known that this was the case, I'd have carried different equipment more suited to photographing birds. Oh well, at least we had a nice day and a good walk.

I was a bit disappointed that the lady slippers weren't blooming yet as there was a lot of emphasis in the description about them. We did see a lot of birds but couldn't get any shots off. They flew away too quick. A couple that was on the walk was from my area and they told that the trilliums are starting to bloom and by next weekend, they should be beautiful. There are painted trilliums in Jasper Woods, so we should get some flower shots there.

Wish there had been more flowers in bloom, but the walk was nice and the guide knew his birds!

This was much more of a bird walk than a wildflower walk. Very few flowers were up right now. No fault if anyone's but the late bloom made for very few photo opportunities.

From Sterling Heights...it would take about two hours. From here to Sleeper State Park...about that...Sebewaing is a bit farther....maybe 2 and a half hours...

Located near Sebewiang, Saginaw Wetland is a class C sanctuary. This means that the sanctuary can only be visited with the assistance of an MNA guide. Guided visits can be arranged by calling the office at[masked]
