Wildflower Walkabout - Jasper Woods Memorial Nature Sanctuary

Another guided tour with steward Bill Atkinson leading us to see trilliums and other wildflowers.

This is a free event. Again, I do not have an exact address but it is in St. Clair County near Kimball. I will send an email on where we will meet.

I thought Bill did a great job despite being a little out of his depth.

My daughter called me this morning and said we were on a video at the Times Herald site.

Here is the link to the Times Herald and click on the multimedia tab. About the middle of the page is revolving slide show of videos - the one you want says something about hikers looking for trilliums.

Here is the link to pull up the Times Herald website.

Nice job Ginger! Appreciate the days event. As Kurt says the bloom we did find was pretty nice bloom. The other bugs and moths found were just posing for the group. I hope to upload a couple photos today. RJH

Good outing today even though the trillium were past their prime, we did manage to find a pretty nice bloom on an endangered painted Trillium. Lots of other wild flowers to photograph and the bugs were plentiful.

    Hi Ginger,
I left a message on your phone, but not sure if you got it. My grandson's are here with my dil and they are helping me in the gardens. I'm so glad for the help and I'm going to stay home this morning and we're going to finish planting. This is part of my Mother's Day gift. Help in the yard. Then I'm thinking of taking them to PH for the Feast of St. Clair activities. The weekend took a turn I didn't expect. I can't turn down the help. Have a great time and I'll be looking forward to seeing, via photos what I missed. Cheers, Arlene

Hey Ginger. Been fighting migranes all weekend and woke up with another one this am. Not going to make this today.

I hope you feel better soon. We will miss you this morning. Take care of yourself.

Ginger, can you post or e-mail an address where we are meeting. We are not familiar with the area and will be coming via GPS. Thanks

    May 21, 2013

    • Ginger H.

You can use this address - 6500 Griswold Road. We will meet at McDonald's on Wadhams Road at 9:30 a.m. This is close to the sanctuary and is NOT the actual address. The sanctuary doesn't have an address.

I think the address for the McDonald's you're talking about is 2805 Wadhams Road, in Kimball. Can you confirm?

      May 25, 2013

  • Cynthia L.

Sometime's those sanctuaries don't have much parking I'm wondering if we need to car pool from McDonalds?

    May 21, 2013

    • Ginger H.

You are right about the parking, Cindy. It would be a good idea if we could car pool. Usually, the parking consists of pulling off the side of the road.

  • Randy H.

    Isn't on site parking limited?

    May 21, 2013

    • Ginger H.

Randy, please see the response to Cindy's question. You are right - parking will be limited.

Not a definite on the guest, I still need to ask her.

I'm glad you can make this, Dawn!

Thanks Ginger, it's good to be back. Sorry I missed the Spring Flower walk. I think it was Sunday. I came down with the flu at two in the morning Saturday. Was down all weekend. Finally feeling better. It was a miserable 24 hour bug.

You haven't missed the Spring Flower walk, Arlene. The walk is scheduled for next Sunday, May 26 at Jasper Woods in Kimball Township.

Looking forward to seeing what's blooming late May. I've never been to this site and it should be fun. I love MNA and am a member. They do good work.

Sorry you'll miss this. Thanks for letting everyone know that they will need a guide to go to these nature sanctuaries. These tours were scheduled by the MNA, so they will lead us to the best spots.
