Bear Bottom Loop: A Moderate 7 Miles

Wildlife you are likely to see during your visit may include raccoon, black bear, wild turkey, white tailed deer, bobcat, fox, beaver, opossums, and skunks just to name a few. In addition there are many types of insects, birds of prey, snakes, fish, trees and wildflowers.

Please remember we are a social hiking group that values fellowship and camaraderie and practice good hike etiquette. We take breaks as necessary and have at least one guide in the front in addition to a "sweeper" in the back which means that no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then please find another group! We are very supportive, encouraging, and focus on safety while getting or staying fit on the trail and practicing leaving no trace.

Please note that our holiday weekend hikes are not refundable due to too many people backing out of the at the last minute before the refund cut-off and keeping others from being able to go. Sorry, but this is the only way to help make sure that there is a good turnout and our leaders not offer to lead a hike on their holiday weekend and day in vain...or they might be burned enough that they will no longer offer to lead them. Since we have made holiday hikes non-refundable it has boosted attendance rate significantly and often have perfect attendance, yay! Please note that our refund policy is always listed just beneath the price, and you are required to check a box that you agree to it before you can pay, so I put it in three places to avoid any issues. Thanks so much for your understanding and have a great time.

Is there anyone else who can swing by Fairfax near GMU to give me a lift to the hike? Lindsay is a saint, and is offering to cart me around even though we've never met, and tomorrow she can't hike herself! I have no intention of putting her out, I'd rather hike another time if no-one else can!

    March 29, 2013

    • Kellie C.

Lindsay, are you using this as your first training hike? This is if you are still interested in joining our leadership team. I tried to reach you through other channels and apologize for having to reach out to you here. If I am not mistaken you even took our recent hike leader certification class through the PATC? Please let me know how it goes either way and thanks so much Lindsay! If you are going to respond, pretty please do so offline (only putting this out here due to not being able to reach you any other way so sorry) at [masked] or text/call me at [masked]. Mike has trained/certified more leaders than most anyone around over the past few years and is who would be the one showing you the ropes while out on this hike, yay! Please know, of course, you are more than welcome to hike as a regular hiker but also didn't want you to be thinking it was a training hike and us not be prepared.

    • Lindsay O.

Hi Kellie: I had to pull out of the hike tomorrow - small foot injury but it's on the mend - so, not using this as a training hike. Will send an email off line, and yes, I am still interested in joining.

Rhonda, thanks for letting us know so we will not wait a few for you. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to keep your RSVP up to date. You are a poster child for how I should work-grin. Hope all is well and that it is something fun you will be doing. See you next time.

    March 14, 2013

    • Lindsay O.

Jisel/Nicole: Due to a foot injury, I'll need to pull out of the hike - I'm bummed about it, but need to listen to my Dr. Nicole. I said I'd pick you up and I still will - I could bring you to Centreville Park n ride and perhaps you and Jisel could ride together?? - Jisel - Is 9:00 ok to meet you in Centreville (it's about an hour to the trail)? Nicole: if this works for Jisel, I'll pick you up at 8:30 at your house.

Hi Lindsay, I feel HORRIBLE that you would have to drive out and cart me around when you're not hiking, especially if it's your right foot. Is there anyone else who might be able to swing through my neck of the woods? I'm in Fairfax near GMU....

Hey Christine..sorry for the long pause. I had to check with my driver friend. She is bringing her dog, and her back seat is sort of cramped. Would that still be ok with you?

    March 13, 2013

    • Nicole

Hi Christine, Arg, I'm still too far to bus there on time on a Saturday morning. I'm near George Mason. I live near the intersection of Main St. & Lee Hwy.

      March 14, 2013

  • Nicole

Hi Lindsay, That is super sweet of you but the thing is, I don't have a car, and public transportation on the weekends here is horrible. I probably can't do it if there isn't someone a bit closer to me. Hopefully when I have a little more money later this year I can just rent a car to join up! :)

    March 14, 2013

  • Pam B.

I will join the Centreville carpool!
