We have a guide in the front in addition to a "sweeper" in the back which helps insure that no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then please find another group! We are very supportive and encouraging with no pressure on speed but focus on safety while leaving no trace.

Fido is Welcome on This Hike!

Let's have good times and see you on the trail!

Great hike (especially once we survived the lo-o-o-ng uphill at the start, and the rock fields). Thanks, Jim, for an excellent hike, two beautiful overlooks (one with a lake), and a good pace. Well-organized (including planting the cars efficiently). Bonus points for the weather and for attracting a great group of people to your hike. Thanks, Kevin, for taking on the task of sweeper.

How to Move from the Wait list to a “Yes” - If you are on the wait list, you will get an e-mail as slots become available. It is a “first come first serve” system for available slots. Slots are open to everyone, whether on the wait list or not. However, being on the wait list will make certain that you are notified when open slots become available as well as letting me know to look for another leader if the trails (and parking) can accommodate it and still comply with our Leave No Trace pledge. Click the following link for how to get off the wait list and RSVP “yes”, http://www.midatlantichiking.co... Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance as that is what I am here for.

There is a very long wait list for this hike. If you can no longer go, pretty please update your RSVP so someone else can enjoy this spectacular hike. Jim is a fantastic leader, enjoy!

Does anyone know if there's a specific address, versus GPS coordinates, of the trailhead parking lot?

    1 · May 3, 2013

    • Jim W.

Andy -- It is literally just on the side of the road but[masked] Baltimore National Pike
Myersville, MD 21773 should get you close -- but the directions are accurate and Google Maps will accept the GPS Coordinates as will most GPS's

I totally forgot my daughter's college graduation that day (thank God for calendars!). I'm afraid that I have to drop out. Have a good hike! I'll get this section done, some day!

Folks -- Due to the restricted number of people on this hike due to parking and shuttling there will be only one pace -- about 2.5 miles per hour. Please consider the hikes you have done in the past at this distance and this speed. While it is a moderate hike it will still be about 4 hours and the trail will be very rocky in spots.
