An Easy Newbie Friendly 3.5 Miles in Hemlock Overlook Regional Park and Optional Post Hike Meal or Visit to Paradise Springs Winery

Hemlock Overlook Regional Park is one of several multi-use parks lining Bull Run some 25 miles southwest of Washington. Like the others, it’s full of hilly scenery. But it covers a mere 400 acres and lacks such amenities as campgrounds and picnic areas. So it’s both an attractive and uncrowded hiking locale. Like the other parks, Hemlock is managed by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. This hike is a short and easy clockwise loop that starts and ends in wooded uplands, accumulating 1,000 feet of elevation change (not gain or loss but total change) along the way due to rolling hills and no steep climbs.  © Copyright 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Washington, DC Published by Menasha Ridge Press. Post Hike Event
We will have an optional post hike meal at The Mainstreet Pub, the green building right on the main street in Clifton. Click here for restaraunt information, including menu and pricing information. Or, if everyone would rather visit Paradise Springs Winery for wine tasting we could that too. Here is the Link for the Winery.

Please remember we are a social hiking group that values fellowship and camaraderie and practice good hike etiquette. We take breaks as necessary and have at least one guide in the front in addition to a "sweeper" in the back which means that no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then please find another group! We are very supportive, encouraging, and focus on safety while getting or staying fit on the trail and practicing leaving no trace

Both Noelle & Shmuel are very personable. They really care that everyone is having a good time and is safe. I loved this hike today and also enjoyed getting to know others in the group at Paradise winery. Looking forward to future hikes.

We didn't know that Bull Run has a promenade - Hemlock Overlook. Noelle has done it. Was a happy bunch today. A lot of twos: married couples, friends, what have you. Above average number of photographers.

The winery, recommended bu Noelle, perfectly fit the group, the appetites and the mode.

Can you get a better deal for $2?

Yes a little too short, is it possible we missed some? I did enjoy the group though. thanks.

    Nice short hike.
Wine tasting afterwards. I don't drink wine but it was still fun to hang out with the group.

it was a great - a beautiful day, great company and certainly a nice trail. based on comments from the group its definitely one I would do again and deviate from the path a bit into the rapids and cool off :). Id come back for an evening hike the. stop by paradise springs to enjoy a glass of wine chat & hear the music ... thanks all!

As of about several hours ago, I am your fearful leader. Hemlock is a short and easy hike, but isn't necessarily newbie. Sunday should usher better weather with lower temps. We'll have a ball (a short one).

The winery is on the road to the tailhead. We pass it on way back. We'll go in if interested.

Last time I did the trail, it was cold, winter and some snow on the ground. Summer is a better time to do Hemlock.

Noelle, happy to hike with you again. We'll juggle tasks as we go along. I'll bring two copies of the map.

Starting from Rockville MD, have plenty of carpool room.

I can volunteer to sweep if needed. I'd like to try out this trail and perhaps lead it at a later date/time
