Luray Caverns Plus and Easy/Newbie Friendly 2 Miles on Stony Man Mountain and Vistas!
The Cave Stroll along the well-lighted, paved walkways that wind through the huge chambers to explore cathedral-sized rooms with soaring ceilings, towering columns and breathtaking stalactites, and then gaze into mirror-perfect pools. The tour takes an hour and don't forget your camera! The cave is the same temperature year 'round so its great for this time of year when it is so hot outside! Fee: We are receiving a big group discount of $18.50 per person which I pass on to you so we save several dollars each on admission! This price includes the fee I incur from Amazon.com which is much less than the fee's charged by paypal.com and why I use them instead. Tickets are regularly $23.00 per person. So come on out and enjoy the cave with the group and make new friends in addition to a great discount on the cave admission!
"What heart would not be lifted...while seated on Stony Man, overlooking the valley?" -- In tribute to George Freeman Pollock, 1949. This is a short and pleasant hike, and has some of the best and second highest vistas in the Shenandoah National Park. This is one of the most scenic circuits in the entire park, and, is newbie friendly and great for our experienced hikers looking for a change of pace. Experienced hikers come on out and enjoy the fantastic views and meet some new members! From Stony Man Overlook, you can see the profile of his face looking west. But you can climb to his forehead and look west with him! There is beauty all the way, in every season! The view on a clear day is unforgettable: the valley, the town of Luray, Massanutten Mountain, and far, far off -- the Alleghenies in West Virginia. The buildings of Skyland lie below to the left; Skyline Drive winds below to the right. If there are clouds, they throw shadows across the peaks and ridges. The panoramic views from Stony Man and Little Stony Man are outstanding. From 1845 to the turn of the century, a copper mine operated near the summit of Stony Man. The Passamaquoddy Trail was laid out by George Freeman Pollock, founder of Skyland, in 1932. Words can't adequately describe the beauty of this round-trip hike of just about 2 miles to a widespread view (see picture included in this listing) from the second highest peak in Shenandoah national Park (4011 feet) where you will be standing on rocks which are part of an ancient lava flow later metamorphosed into greenstone. You'll have a climb, but a very gentle one. We have a guide booklet whose entries correspond with numbered posts along the trail! If you wish to have your own copy, we will be passing by a park store where one can be purchased for a buck.
Pace Options There will be three pace options for this short but sweet hike. We will hike in groups no larger than 15 hikers per leader as larger groups are harsh on the environment and take away form the remote feeling of hiking for our own group as well as others on the trail. Kellie will lead a newbie/social/takes tons of pics pace, while Mike will lead a moderate paced hike for those who want a workout and need less frequent stops. Last but not least, Justin will be leading a pace that will be determined by group needs and can range from an additional social pace all the way up to trail running.
If you already know the pace that you wish to hike, please put it in your RSVP so we can plan accordingly.

The entry fee for Skyline Drive for all vehicles is $15 for a single car. Many members have annual passes to SNP, so please try to workout a way to carpool or meet those with annual passes near the park entrance to help consolidate expenses. Even if just getting a day pass, it makes sense for people to ride in together so they can share the expense of the park entry fee. Park passes, which are valid for unlimited entries within a seven-day period, are issued when you enter the park. Payment may be made at the park gate with cash, credit, or debit cards. A year-long pass can be purchased for $30 and pays for itself in 2 visits to anywhere in Shenandoah National Park, including Sklyine Drive.
