Holiday Weekend Hike in Gunpowder Falls State Park: Wildlands Area! Join Us for An Easy Side of Moderate 5 Mile Hike!

This loop follows the upland forests of the fall zone, crossing a few easy streams (pretty much non-existent in the winter) and visiting a pleasant waterfall, then meanders downstream along Big Gunpowder Falls as it leaves the piedmont. Watching Big Gunpowder Falls sliding through several narrow gorges, it is hard to believe that only 5 miles downstream the falls will spread to a deltalike, broad river more than a mile wide." Copyright Hiking Maryland and Delaware

Hike Pace

A moderate pace of about[masked] mph and the average hiking pace used as a baseline in most hiking books. (most common pace).

Hike Meetup Time is 10:00 a.m.

Please remember we are a social hiking group that values fellowship and camaraderie and practice good hike etiquette.  We take breaks as necessary and have at least one guide in the front in addition to a "sweeper" in the back and no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then please find another group! We are very supportive, encouraging, and focus on safety while getting or staying fit on the trail and practicing Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.

Holiday Hike Note

Please note that our holiday and holiday weekend hikes are not refundable due to too many people backing out of the hike at the last minute before the refund cut-off. Sorry, but this is the only way to help make sure that there is a good turnout and our leaders not offer to lead a hike on their holiday in vain...or we will be all become burned enough that we will no longer offer them. Since we have made holiday hikes non-refundable it has boosted attendance rate significantly and often have perfect attendance. Thanks so much for your understanding and I look forward to seeing you out on the trail soon.

Fido is Welcome on This Hike!

Please be sure to take a leaders number with you just in case and see you there for good times out on the trail!

Sorry I tried to come, but got very epic-ly lost! Google directions for the fail. I got on the trail about an hour after you all, but didn't catch up. If any one is going to Fraser Preserve next weekend, I hope to see you there! (i.e. I hope I don't get lost!)

    January 17, 2014

  • Lucie

How can I add one more person if I already did my RSVP?

    January 14, 2014

    • Klara

Like Eric said as long as there is room, you can just change your RSVP. You don't have to cancel though. Just hit the green button to change it, and select a new number of guests & then 'finish RSVP.' Meetup will prompt you to pay for them & then you are all set.
