Flash Meet-Up! Roger Williams Park Zoo

It's going to be a great spring weather day tomorrow, so let's go to the zoo! We'll meet at the entrance at 9am and move quickly inside. There is food available at the zoo, so we'll meet for lunch in the food courtyard not far from the flamingos at around 11:30am.
For info, admission fees and directions, see their website; rwpzoo.org
If you are using a gps, use the zoo site directions as a guide, some gps units will take you off the highway too soon.

Well, it changes again. Yesterday I spoke to the Operation Manager and he was already aware of the events on Saturday. He said the people I dealt with were wrong and that tripods are allowed excepting on special days (special events) in buildings or on days where they get very busy (spring break). He claims everyone has been brought up to speed and that I would not encounter the same problem in the future. He blamed the young staff saying that's what you get with kids however the "kids" were polite and apologetic while he never apologized to me for my inconvenience.
Could it happen again? Maybe, but hopefully if you get there early in the day when they aren't crowded, tripod use wouldn't be an issue. Check their website and avoid the free weekend for the locals and you'll stand a better chance.

To all: Don't feel bad, it was a bust. I've gone there for 20+ years with various groups of photographers and no one ever said anything about our tripods. I was stopped at the gate and told tripods are not allowed and haven't been for over 5 years. I asked where it was posted and they couldn't find that it was. Insurance reasons were quoted, but no details. I asked them several questions and told them that many camera clubs have been there over the years with tripods. I shot the same rig last year and had many conversations with zoo staff, not one told me it wasn't allowed. I asked them why huge strollers and wagons were allowed if it's a safety issue. No replies. The people I spoke with were polite and I understand they are doing as they are told but if it is going to be policy then it should be posted somewhere.

The bottom line is I won't go back. Neither will I organize a trip there. Looks like a trip to Southwick's Zoo is in the future.

I really didn't have any ideas myself until this morning. The weather has been so unco-operative it has been hard to plan anything outdoors for fear of a snow/rain/cold out. We may run it again depending on what I see tomorrow.

Ok, if I had an idea this was going to happen, I would have passed on the First Robotics meet-up tomorrow. But now I feel committed to the previously arranged event.
