July 4th long run

Get ready for the July 4th Barbecues the right way!  By starting out the day with a long run to get rid of some calories...

We'll have a brand new route for us out on the West Side of Lansing starting at the Denny's on Saginaw and zipping through the trail from Canal Rd. to Sharp Park...

The loops come back to Denny's for coffee if you like...

Looks like we'll have some folks heading out pretty early...am posting 12 and 6 mile loops...if you have a time and distance you are aiming for...post here and we'll try to match everyone up with running buddies and routes...

I am going to aim for 8 miles, and will be there at 7am. FYI sidewalks are nice on Elmwood, Creyts, and Willow highway. For those doing longer distances heading a block north of Willow Highway on Creyts/Webster to Old River Trail Road (Left before the bridge) , takes you to a nice flat and scenic Hunters Orchard loop (1.3 miles for the large loop.) However there is a substantial hill just outside Hunters Orchard on Old River Trail road, which is also not the best road to run on, but often has so little traffic it is not a major issue. One place to avoid especially if running in groups is Canal between the east west pathway, and Willow Highway. There is a section with no side walk, and no substantial shoulder with a decent amount of traffic.

I have 14 miles at 9:45 pace, and I would love to run at 6 am, before the heat. Who else wants to come out early?

I have 16 at 9:30-10:00 pace....will be starting at 6 as well to hopefully avoid a little heat.
