Go to the St. Louis Zoo

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, let's go to the St. Louis Zoo for the day and eat dinner that evening.  The zoo's animals are much more active in cooler weather.

We will discuss car pooling possibilities from Jefferson City (and/or Kingdom City, for those coming from Columbia) when we know who is going. You can get lunch at the zoo or consider packing a lunch.

The Plan will be to leave Jefferson City at 8:45 am.  Hopefully we will get to the zoo around 11:30 and we'll meet at the SOUTH entrance (that's the main entrance).  For a map of the zoo grounds see: http://www.stlzoo.org/visit/thingstoseeanddo/ We will plan to stay until 05:00 pm and then discuss where to go for dinner.  Our counterparts in St. Louis (the St. Louis Singles Christian Adventure Group) have a game night that evening which we could add to our schedule for some additional fun.

The zoo has many activities to offer:

River's Edge:  Take a journey along a mythical waterway through four continents to discover how wildlife, plants and people interact. River's Edge is the Saint Louis Zoo's first immersion exhibit -- a lushly planted naturalistic environment showcasing multiple species from around the world.

The Wild:  From the sub-Antarctic to tropical rainforests, animals have made some pretty amazing adaptations. See some of the hardy species that climb, swim and swing through some of the seemingly inhospitable places on the planet.  AND

Red Rocks:  At Red Rocks, you’ll view some of the world’s most powerful predators living near some of the world’s most graceful prey. Lions, tigers, zebra and giraffes all share the natural rocky boulders and outcroppings as their territory.

These are just some of the things we can see and do.

I had a good time seeing the zoo with the group. Every one seemed to have a good time and saw the exhibits they wanted to see.

Elaine where in Columbia are you? I think we could meet at Hy-Vee on Conley at 8:30 and plan to head out by 8:45. I think it is a 20 minute drive from Columbia, MO. I am in it for the whole day.

Sorry, Karl, I didn't see you on this meetup earlier. So then we'll take two vehicles...meet at McDonald's in Kingdom City around 9:00 and we'll figure it all out. See you then!

I'll be at Kingdom City at 9:15 Sat morning if someone wants to ride with me. I may leave the zoo before 5 though so you may have to leave early or ride back with someone else, will probably stop in Chesterfied for lunch before zoo.

Rick and Steve will already be in St. Louis, so there's just 5 of us going up Saturday morning (me, my sister Jennifer plus her daughter, Nancy, and Elaine). My sister is willing to drive, but it will be very cozy on the way up. I'm staying in St. Louis with Rick Saturday night so the ride home should be comfortable for the rest of you. $10 from each rider for gas should be good. Elaine and Nancy could ride together to Kingdom City. We'll be at the McDonald's between 9:00 and 9:15. We will stop at a fast-food place for lunch just before we get to the zoo (probably in Chesterfield).

I know I can't drive to St. Louis but will pay $10 to the driver if that would be ok.
