    I remember the term I wasn't able to recall yesterday afternoon: "Rapid Iteration Design." It's the concept where you playtest, change one small thing, then playtest again to see how things turn out. It's the method I strongly recommend, and that most veterans of the scene recommend. It's very similar to software design and troubleshooting, ironing out bugs and the like in a tabletop, hard-copy format.
