I'm a new mom and want to meet other moms in central Toronto. I was a member of other Mommy Groups but through my experience and talking with other moms and moms to be about what they want in a great group, I decided to start this one- so WELCOME! You have taken the first step in becoming involved in an energetic, dynamic and fun group. In this group we are not about the numbers but the quality of the meetups. This group is for Moms to make friends for their babies/toddlers and for themselves or for expecting moms to build a support network. This group si private and I will be screening all potential applicants for the safety of our moms, moms to be and babes. APPLICATIONS WITHOUT A REAL PHOTO OF THE MEMBER WILL BE DECLINED. A photo is necessary to join.
I will be organizing meetups in the central Toronto area-anything from coffee dates, movie time, bookstore visits and outings like the zoo and good ol' retail therapy.
Expect activities scheduled throughout the year. Here you will find friends, share stories, experiences and have an opportunity to venture out of the house with your little one and enjoy the day.
This group is geared toward expecting & new moms living anywhere in the city but especially those in midtown or north toronto. My aim is to keep in mind the issues thar arise for moms in the GTA such as riding the TTC, working moms, childcare, low cost or free events and moms only or expecting moms only events. This is a group geared to active women who want to and plan on participating in the group. Your voice and involvement are necessary to make this group a success. Let's ensure that rarely does a day go by without a great event - everything from book clubs and coffee dates to mall walks and exercise classes.
We encourage as much discussion as possible. We ask that you activate your daily message notification - we can't be effective in meetings member's needs if we don't know there is a request out there.
Please take a moment to update your profile so that we know where in the city everyone is and please actively look at the messages and polls and respond accordingly. We'd like to make this group good for everyone. Also, please RSVP to each of the events whether you can make it or not and why so that we can adjust accordingly.
IN THIS GROUP, I DO A PERIODIC AUDIT AND REMOVE INACTIVE MEMBERS OR THOSE WHO CONSISTENTLY NO SHOW OR CANCEL AT THE THE LAST MINUTE WITHOUT EXPLANATION.
It is more important to us to have a close knit group where moms and children can be safe, accepted, supported and make real friendships and bonds than have a large number of members. You will find in most of the other mommy groups on meetup, the membership number is not an accurate representation of actual active members and over 50% have not been active in at least 6 months or more. Therefore, take it with a grain of salt, more is not better and quality is often better than quantity. Members are invited to rejoin at any time if their ability or desire to participate changes or let me know if they would like to have their account on hiatus for whatever reason and I won't remove you.

1) What is www.meetup.com?
A - It is an international forum that creates "meetup" groups all over the globe so that people with like interests can get together to discuss and share. Groups are run by volunteer organizers.
2) Why is there a fee for www.meetup.com?
A - There is no fee for you! The fees for our webspace are currently paid for through sponsorship. This covers the cost of maintaining/updating the functionality and hosting of the Meetup.com site.
3) Will I be receiving promotional emails or spam through the mailing list?
A - We have a policy of keeping spam out of your inbox, that being said, there will be occasional emails from our sponsor as part of the sponsorship agreement which allows us to maintain our group without charging membership dues.
4) Why are there fees for some events?
A - the fees are to cover basic expenses of a vendor who is willing to provide a service at a hugely discounted rate, but is not able to provide that service for free. Ie - a professional photographer or a discounted tour. I get absolutely $0 from those proceedings. In fact, I have you pay the vendor directly.
5) Why aren't there events at more convenient times for me or more often or more variety?
A - If you have a specific idea or date/time in mind, just share it - we'll see what we can do. I am always looking for more assistant organizers - thanks to those who have volunteered your time.
7) What can I do to make this group better?
A - participate in discussions on the message board. Ask questions. Provide other moms with the answers they're looking for. Recommend products you love. Post a review on products/services you were unhappy with to warn other moms. This group belongs to all of us - we'll get out of it what we put in.
7) How can I familiarize myself with the site?
A - click on all of the links on the left. Clicking on "Members" opens up all of the profiles. Click on the envelope by someone's name to send them an email. Click on "Message Board" to view any discussions that may be in progress. Click on "Calendar" to view and RSVP for events. You can view it in a Calendar or List format - whatever you find easier.
8) This group has a policy of a 3 strike rule. If a member Noshows or cancels within 2 days of an event 3 times, they will be removed from the group. This is to protect the integrity of the group.
