**If your trial period ended, you were automatically removed from the meetup group. Please feel free to join again!!**
Midtown Readers is a book club for women of all ages (sorry, guys!) who seek friendships and share a love of reading a wide range of books. Jesa and Rachel have been the organizers since August of 2013 with the intention of making Midtown Readers a space for friendships, community, and intelligent discussion. If you are looking for other spirited women to have thoughtful discussions with, look no further! This is a very friendly group, and new members are always welcome (we do sometimes stray outside the book--just a warning!).
Over the past year or so, Midtown Readers has grown into a social group that meets three times a month to discuss books (Midtown Readers), watch documentaries (Documentary Night), and make stuff (Midtown Makers). Some of us also meet as part of the Women's March movement (Huddle).
Midtown Readers meets the 1st Thursday of each month at a coffee shop, restaurant, wine bar, or private residence in (or fairly close to) Midtown. We poll members and ask that they select 3 or 4 books from the poll, and schedule books a few months in advance. Book selections for the polls are taken from members' comments. If you make suggestions after the poll, we'll add it to the next one. Ideal selections are books under 450 pages, and also available in paperback, e-book, and audiobook formats.
If anyone has a suggestion for a location (preferably not too loud with ample seating), or would like to host, feel free to post in the comments of that event. Also, if you aren't able to finish the book, and don't mind spoilers, come anyway!
Midtown Makers is hosted by on the 3rd Thursday at Tupelo. We've got members who knit, quilt, color, bullet journal, crochet, hand spin, sew...basically, if it's portable, bring it. Newbies and experienced makers are welcome! We have members who do most of the above and we are happy to teach if you'd like to learn. Send Rachel a message if you need supplies to borrow for the night.
Movie Nights are hosted in various members' homes on the 4th Thursday, where we watch a documentary (or something topical), drink wine and eat snacks while watching and discussing the movie. This is generally on the 4th Thursday of the month, unless our host needs to make a change.
As of April 2016, we're asking members to pay $10 per billing cycle (6-months). New members have the option of trying Midtown Readers for two months and paying $10 if they like the group and want to join after that "trial" period. We pay up to $180 in Meetup fees yearly, and if we find that $10 (minus fees) covers us for a full year or more, we will adjust the payment plan. If you have concerns, please feel free to message us about them.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
