Subject: [mike-franco-for-ma-governor-council] Where We Were, Where We Are & The Future - Thank You.
Dear Friends & Supporters of the Governor's Council Challenge in the 8th
We had lots of great things happen on the campaign trail with many awesome
people helping in very creative and fun ways. However, we fell a little short
and we're not quite within striking distance just yet.
Having been in this business for a while, I believe there is much success to
proclaim here today, including what we've learned about the role of the
Executive Board of the Governor's Council, as well as the responsibilities and
duties of its members. We can cover the dry stuff again at a later date.
This was our third time out for the position, and we've made improvements every
step of the way. In 2006, our campaign received only 22 percent in a 3-way race.
We didn't win any of the 93 cities and towns, but we came in second, beating a
prominent Springfield attorney. Then in 2008, we earned 30-31 percent in a
head-to-head race with progressive Democrat, judge-lawyer, Thomas Merrigan,
We won four suburban towns to include E. Long., Wilbraham, Hampden, Southwick
and two hill towns which were Granville and Tolland. We almost tied in a few
others like Longmeadow, and did very well in numerous others.
Now, in 2010, we've achieved just short of 38 percent in another contest with
the Judge. We learned how to assert ourselves more, taking some measured
chances. The environment was right. As a result, we won more than 12 cities and
towns, tying a few once again, and doing well in numerous others.
Each time, we spent only a few thousand dollars of our treasure to their 10's of
thousands of dollars. My thoughts this cycle were that "it would be a 'great
success' if we broke 40% and if we made 51% or greater that would be a
'miracle'." Well, like I said, we fell a little short. The Democrats had a
"group hug" and pulled it all together last minute.
We've learned a lot about campaigning and who our opponents are along the way
because we had a team on the field just about all the time. Well. Is it time to
rest? Maybe for a short while. But, only so we may prepare to fight another day!
I'm honored to have your support and friendship. Thank you.
