Franco for Governor's Council 2012

Dear Friends:

I have become a candidate once again for Governor's Council, 8th District, which includes all of Western MA west of Quabbin Reservoir to the NY state border, running north and south along the Rt. 202 corridor from the CT border to New Hampshire. The district picked up the three new communities of Orange, Warwick and Royalston in the northeast corner, and is now comprised of a total of 96 cities and towns.

Our campaign in the past has always been strong and on solid ground. And we try our best not to put a financial burden on our friends, family and supporters. With a grassroots investment each of the three times in 2006, 2008 and 2010 respectively, we have performed well, always improving our “numbers”, and our approach to "market".

Here's a brief overview: The first time out, we earned 22 percent of the vote district wide. We did not win any cities and towns, but we beat a third-party gentleman candidate and prominent attorney out of the Springfield-Ludlow area. The second time out we finished with 31 percent of the vote, winning six towns in the suburbs of Greater Springfield to the south east, and west.

And more recently, in 2010, we achieved 38 percent of the vote, winning 12 towns and two cities, and practically tying several communities in the Greater Springfield area and in the increasingly progressive Hilltowns.

Our message has been consistent and sound. Who I am as a candidate has not changed in my principles or values. I have, however, learned to better understand many important issues of our time as I meet with new people and various advocacy groups along the campaign trail.

And this year we will have at least one Republican primary challenge. The contest of ideas should prove to be spirited. However, we will stand on "our own two feet" as we always do. Our "endorsement" will again come from the grassroots as it always has.

Even though I am an advocate for certain causes in the charitable realm (non-profit, 501c3), we will not be wooed to identity politics such as this-group or that-group for Mike Franco. And we will not "fold" to endorsements from the political class. We will leave that approach to the weak, the desperate, and the Democrats.

Like in the past, we will work with "like-minded" individuals, candidates and movements that stand on principles and values near and dear to our hearts. This is all I have to say today.

Thank you for your precious time and consideration once again.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yours Very Truly,

Mike Franco
