July 2 WEDNESDAY - RFU Workshops: “Shifty Rhythms & Rounds” 6:30 – 8:30pm
Part of RFU Summer Workshop Series. “Shifty Rhythms & Rounds” explores how learning a simple rhythm then shifting the starting point (by 1, 2, or 3 beats) transforms how the rhythm interacts with other (in our case, familiar and simple) rhythms. It’s fun! Once you experience this, you may find yourself trying the method with other rhythms you already know well. To give you an idea, one of the rhythms we will use is: “O - B o - o O -” (that’s; “TONE-space-BASS-tone-space-tone-TONE-space” with all caps played with dominant hand). There are a few others as well. For the “Rounds” portion of the workshop, we will do a repeated rhythm and start on different beats (think...“Michael Row the Boat Ashore”). Both of these are great LISTENING exercises!
. 2 hour workshop, cost is $20. Instructor Tom Gill. Held at Rhythm For Unity. Minimum 5 students to hold a session. Please indicate intention at least one week prior to class via call or email ([masked]). You will receive a confirmation if session has met the minimum enrollment. DON’T JUST SHOW UP! [masked][masked]
