Hello, drummers.

I need to pass this on to all of you - we've just learned that Famoudou Konate will be unable to do his upcoming North American tour.  But Famoudou's nephew,  Namory Keita, will be still be teaching the Chicago classes.  Below is the info that was recently sent out by Helen Bond, his North American representative.

Hi everyone -

I have some sad news.....I have just learned on Sunday that Famoudou is ill and can't do the North American Tour.  He is getting treatment, so that is good!  The tour officially starts next week so, unfortunately, he had to make the decision not to do the North American tour.

Some GOOD NEWS... I am still having workshops in Chicago.  They will be with Namory Keita who is a nephew of Famoudou and the Main Djembefola of Sangbralla Village in Hamana.  I am very excited about this piece of the news!  Namory is a renowned drummer and teacher by his own right; he has been teaching international students in Guinea for many years and last year toured in Europe.  This is his first trip to the US!  He is a great guy and I have known him for many years!  I am really thrilled to introduce him to the community here and excited for people to experience him!  This will also give people a different perspective of the traditional Malinke drumming.

Some MORE GOOD NEWS.....  The price will now be $65 a day and $80 a day for the advanced classes.  We will still hold all classes in the same venues they are schedule for.

As you can imagine, I'm in a serious whirlwind trying to arrange everything for Chicago as well as the other cities (which is fortunately all set).  Details will be posted on my website as I secure the information for the other cities and who will be teaching in those cities.

FYI ....Here is what I have posted on my website....

"We regret to inform you that Famoudou Konate has taken ill and is unavailable for this year's North American Tour. However, in an effort to continue the tour, we are exploring the availability of some other prominent and renowned players and teachers from the Hamana Region of Guinea. Once we can confirm their availability, we will notify you immediately. Thank you for your understanding and patience while we deal with this unexpected situation."

Please help spread the word about the workshops with Namory; I hope to be able to offer him a huge Welcome to the Chicago Area!

If you would like to register you can do so on line; when the charges are put through it will reflect the new lower price - even though the website is not updated to reflect the change.  You can also mail in your registration or call[masked]-0708.

Best wishes,
