I think it was you who had the issue with the book navigation in drupal.
I have a solution for you (I think) if you're interested. Send me an email and I'll try and send the explanation. It's actually very simple if what I'm doing is right. I can get the block separately and into it's own DIV outside of the main content which would let you then control the theming much better.
