Hello Wine Enthusiasts!
This week's Demi event at the Boerner Botanical Gardens still has plenty of room available if you're interested in attending. I will just be taking a final guest count Thursday around noon. Please remember that you can find us at the event by searching for the Wine/Champagne Bottle-shaped balloon tied to a lawn chair. Remember to bring a lawn chair or blanket and you can either BYOB your own wine and food or purchase them from Bartalotta's Catering Company on site.
We have plenty of event space left at Cooper's Hawk for our Magnum Eat Dessert First! event featuring dessert wine flights paired with desserts. Coopers Hawk and I have just completed assembling the custom menu and it will be hard to make a choice, trust me. Check out the details on the event by going to Upcoming Meetups on our website. The final guest count has to be provided next week. So, if you are interested save your spot.
If you have ever considered assisting me in planning some of our events then please sign up for our Holiday Party Planning PowWow scheduled for August 2nd at Vino100 in Wauwatosa. There is only one spot left, and I am limiting this to members who have been to at least two or more events in the last six months. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
I will be meeting with the Thief Wine Shop & Bar later this month to finalize our Demi event scheduled for Thursday August 9th. This appears to be a popular event, so make your reservations now or be the first on the waiting list. I am sure plans will change for some of our members and you could get in. If our count is close to the limit I may just ask you to consider joining us anyway.
This last weekend Aaron and I celebrated our anniversary by taking a trip to Lake Geneva. While there we encountered a new winery that just opened six weeks ago and also learned of another new winery within a 30 minute drive. I am excited for the upcoming fall season, as our trip has given me many new ideas for future Magnum events. Be sure to check our site frequently for new event postings.
Interested in doing a little local wine tasting and seeing what all the buzz is about with Oregon wine? Consider attending "Will-Am-It Damn-It" Oregon's Greatest Wine Region Tasting & Workshop at the Bay View Center July 30, 2012 (Mon) from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM. It's Oregon's greatest wine region - Willamette. Wines of the Pacific Northwest (Washington/Oregon)are emerging as some of America's BEST (sorry California). Tom Vaughan, CSW, covers Oregon's Willamette region &its Superstar - PINOT NOIR. But that's not all. There are 72 grape varietals grown in this region including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Viognier. You will taste about 10 wines all readily available in the Milwaukee-land area. Handouts include lots of information and more wines. We'll add Bottled Water (1/person), coffee, snacks and a Cold Buffet (meats/cheeses/veggies/fruit) served around 8:30pm. Cost is $25 PP.
It is over a month away and already the Inventory Reduction Wine Tasting Magnum event in August is nearly full. We would love for some of our hobby winemaker members to join us. However, good luck in bringing that Nebuchadnezzar with you though...
...Our wine word for this week.
Nebuchadnezzar: Named after the famed Babylonian king, a large bottle holding 15 litres, the equivalent of 20 regular bottles of wine. The second largest bottle of wine made.
In Vino Veritas!
