Devon Seafood and Steak

Devon Seafood + Steak (5715 N. Bayshore Drive, Glendale) was among the first restaurants to open in the revamped Bayshore Town Center. Devon is part of a chain, but its luxuriant seating and tranquil setting will make you feel otherwise. Of special note are jumbo crab cakes that are all about the meat. Dinners include items like lobster tamale, smoked salmon flatbread and half of a crab melt, among others. The tasty soups include lobster bisque and Creole gumbo.

A Candid review from Trip Advisor

“Reliable, Delicious, Affordable and Indulgent.” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

I have dined at Devon's perhaps 10 times over the last 2 years and have had an exceptional meal every time. It helps if you like fresh fish, and if you do, Devon's offers about a dozen different types and they are all prepared as close to perfect as I could ask. Their Sunday brunch is magnificent, pricing is very reasonable, and the ambiance is very nice. Their wine selection is extensive, the desserts are luxurious, and the service is both friendly and professional. Any grilled fish selection will amaze your palate, not with overwhelming spices or sauces, but with the natural delicious flavor of the fish. And I don't think I have had a better Lobster Bisque anywhere. The other thing to mention is that Devon's frequently has discounts and specials, including the deal last night where I brought in 20 wine corks in exchange for a $20 credit on dinner. Even if their pricing were higher, I think Devon's would be competitive with many restaurants costing twice as much.

Hello, I'm very new here so i have a few question about tonights meeting. You spoke of dues, were the dues you were speaking of the $5 membership fees or is it something different? Also can you tell me what to expect cost wise for dinner?
    Thank you,
    Lori

      Lori,
The $5.00 is the annual membership fee. You can pay it online by clicking on Pay Now Icon on the left taskbar of our groups Meetup homepage. You are then taken to PayPal to pay dues. This is the preferred way of paying the annual membership fee.
The cost of this dinner is really what you order. We typically try to have the waiters provide a separate check for each member when possible. The check you would receive would reflect what you ordered. When that is not possible we pass the check around and everyone writes what they ordered on the check and submits that amount.
If you look most of the entrees are $14 -$30. Pick a median price of $17, add tax and tip, it would be about $22. If you order drinks or a more expensive dish the cost will rise.

Devon is about as close to home for me as anything else, so I've been there a couple of times. In my opinion, their Caesar Salads are one of the best in town. I like them really garlicky. They will also put anchovies on at your request.

Guess my questions didn't get posted. What is the fee? Who does it go to? What does it cover? What does it mean to be a host? How does one become a host? What does a host do? Requirements? Are all events on the weekend, or are weeknight dinners ok, too? Need to know.

I'm glad to hear that as a host you don't have to set things up continually. I wouldn't have time much of the year. Also that groups can be smaller. I too am much more comfortable with smaller groups. For me it is less intimidating and much easier to converse.

Actually, I woke up this morning thinking of restaurants in my area that I either like or have always wanted to try. Still, I don't quite know how to go about it. I think I'd like to host events the end of June and July. Once the semester starts in Fall, I'm usually too tied up to do much of anything outside of my work.

I've got a couple of questions: What are the dues? Who do they go to? What does it mean to be a host? What does a host do? Anything else I should know as a new member? I've gone to one event and need to learn if there is a protocol. Let me know. Thanks.

You just have to love the location, ease of parking(Even if you park illegally within the complex you receive a $5 parking ticket, with 100% of the parking ticket proceeds going to charity). There are so many places we can move for our post dinner discussion(s). This will be a fun one!
