Since 1948, formerly as Coerper’s Five O’Clock Club, this steak house remains a timely Milwaukee culinary fixture, a happy caravansary where meat rules. The name came about years ago when an alarm clock behind the bar rang at 5 p.m., signaling a free round for guests. All the steaks here are served with butter sautéed mushrooms, just as they should be. Bacon-wrapped filets, with Bleu cheese topping and Parmesan cream sauce demands an amble home, just to clear the arteries. Dinner comes with a monster tossed salad and the requisite relish tray.
