Installing Wordpress: Auto-install vs Command-line & How to Work with WP Offline

We will join forces with a class that meets on a Thursday evening at the MATC Oak Creek campus.

They have a 40-seat lecture theater.

* Allan Fuelling will demonstrate a basic Wordpress installation

* Jim Raffel will demonstrate using MAMP to run Wordpress locally, on a computer for development and testing purposes

* Dustin Filippini will demonstrate a command-line install

Note: You will park in the "C" lot.  Walk to the south entrance of the Main "A" building. We'll be in lecture hall "C". For those who RSVP, we will email a PDF that is printable, to put in your windshield so you know where to park and don't get a ticket.

Here's the WordPress Install via FTP presentation. Sorry it took so long to post. Feel free to ask questions in the comments on the blog. Thx, http://www.pronetindy.com/2011/09/27/installing-wordpress-via-ftp/

As a newbie to WP and graphic designer it was difficult to follow along. Although there were some areas that were understandable overall I was lost. I would have liked to have seen an additional option for newbies as well as the command line option during the MAMP presentation. Keep in mind I am just beginning to learn WP so these comments should be taken with a grain of salt.

Jim, Dustin and Allan did a great job presenting on all the different ways to install Wordpress.. from Fun to downright Geeky. Thanks to David and Jonathan from MATC as well for helping to coordinate the venue!

Great meetup. Good people. Nice to be able to have the MATC class involved. The presenter on Command-Line Install was especially good :)

Liked the idea of alternating speakers. Each presentation was well put together: steps were easy to follow and the length of each presentation was just right.

Thanks Dave. I've sent the permit to all who have RSVP'd before this afternoon. I will send it once again via email if any new RSVP's come in. Scott

Reminder, you have to RSVP to get the printable parking permit and avoid a parking ticket from the city of Oak Creek. The permit has a handy map on it too. THANKS!

I could demonstrate how to set-up a local MAMP install. I'm no expert at this but I do it.
