Custom Post Types & Taxonomies: The Benefits of Structured Data in Wordpress

According to the Wordpress Codex, Post Types refers to the various structured data that is maintained in the WordPress posts table. Native (or built-in) post types include: post, page, attachment, revision, and nav-menu-item.

Custom Post Types are also supported in WordPress. Custom Post Types allow you to create different types of content in WordPress.

Brian Artka will share about some nifty projects he's been working on recently that show the power of custom post types.

There is also a pretty crazy plugin for creating and managing Custom Post Types that we will be discussing. It is called the Custom Post Type UI plugin that acts as a user interface to make it really easy to use Custom Post Types on your website.

Jerry Broitzman of Aquent, will be providing the refreshments for the evening.

Jerry says, "As a Senior Recruiter, my job is to provide as much information as possible to you about the job opening, so that you can make the best decision. Think of me as a wilderness guide. My job is to help walk you through the woods, avoiding the quicksand, falling rocks, impassable rivers and assorted trolls. Once I point out the pot of gold, it is your job to retrieve it. Where is your pot of gold?"

Have to admit I was a little lost, but think I was in the minority. Understood the concept. Will utilize experts when/if implemented. All WP MeetUps offer solid info, all good to know.

Brian definitely knows this stuff, but not sure if he clearly expressed the "benefits" of structured data. His examples showed the results in the CMS for entry, but not any overall value.

I wish the presentation included more diverse examples. The Real Estate taxonomies were somewhat limited compared to the potential of how Custom Post Types and Taxonomies can be applied across a WordPress site.

I'm now curious about how these might integrate with "categories", and distinctions between applying them to pages versus posts. I'd be interested in a most hands-on workshop on utilizing Custom Posts and Taxonomies for a B2B website.

THANKS. I know more than I did before this meetup, and it has peeked my curiosity more.

No problem, thanks for coming up with these awesome events!

To find the place just look for the bank building right next to Kopps Hamburgers, you can't miss it. To find the conference take the elevator to the "LL" floor and make an immediate left.
