Wordpress 3.4 Meets Web Standards: How Did It Do?

Have you ever been asked by a client if the websites you make are standards-compliant? Do you want to know if WordPress is compliant to Section 508 standards? We will discuss some guidelines that have been set by the US government, here: http://www.access-board.gov/sec508/guide/ and also compare other accessibility issues ( http://codex.wordpress.org/Accessibility ) in regards to WordPress web design practices.

We will starting off the evening with a 15-30 minute presentation on WordPress and HTML5/CSS3 by Mike McCallister, author of WordPress in Depth.

Then, Paul Sanchez will share about Section 508 accessibility requirements.

The first presenter (Mike) seemed to address mostly newbies. His presentation style does not convey confidence in his depth of WordPress knowledge, which is surprising because he has written several books, such as WordPress in Depth.

Dustin and Paul catered to more evolved WP users/developers which helps me greatly.

The last speaker (Paul) covered excellent points on Accessibility for Everyone. I learned a long time ago that it was important to support audio and visual elements via text, which can then be conveyed to the user with a screenreader app. I always believed that websites making superior efforts to improve accessibility for ALL would be given a boost across all types of ratings (including indexes, directories and search engines). More info on Paul's 16 points can be found at http://www.access-board.gov/sec....

Thanks to the Milwaukee WordPress MeetUp (and Orion Group), this was 90 minutes well spent. Were there more tables this time? Awesome!

Paul and Mike did a good job presenting. It's too bad the projector blew out during Paul's presentation, but overall information was disseminated pizza was consumed and people had fun

Would like a bit more info on what this will cover. Is there even an hours worth of feedback on advantages, best practices or issues with WP 3.4? Thanks,
