Setting up WordPress to Run on Your Local Computer & How to Deploy it to the Web

You will want to attend this day-time event on Friday, Jan 22nd @ 9:15am in Brookfield, WI.

Developing Your WordPress Website Locally
(on your Computer’s hard drive without needing an internet connection, web hosting and a domain name)

Marc Benzakein, of ServerPress, will discuss how to streamline your development workflow using DesktopServer. With DesktopServer, there is no need to mess with databases, local host files or other advanced details, making it easy to develop your website and test your changes offline. You can run as many development sites as you'd like, on your own computer. DesktopServer also automates the deployment of development sites to a web server.

If anyone would like me to do a similar presentation via Google Hangout, ping me and let me know. Maybe I'll schedule something for those of you who couldn't make it and do it again.

In the meantime, here are my slides from today:

Very interesting, enjoyable and valuable. The speaker, Marc B. did something almost no other speaker does - he helped people directly and authentically after the presentation. This saved people a great deal of time, since they had struggled for hours or weeks with things that Marc totally cleared up within minutes - before he left the room. His company should be seriously considered when you're looking for fast, easy WordPress software to create a WordPress site on your own computer - before going live. There's a free version and a more extensive (low-cost) paid version. Thanks, Marc and organizer Scott O.!!

Becky - it will be well worth it to attend. I'd take a vacation day, get a substitute, or whatever. You can do it!! Otherwise you'll be thinking about what you missed for a long time, especially when you're working on your WordPress. Plus, Marc is very knowledgeable and friendly. You'll meet lots of kindred souls, too. That's always helpful, even when you're alone - knowing you're part of a "take action" community. Take care, Becky.

I've had a Wordpress Blog for a couple of years now, but when it comes to really using all the features I'm lost. Would like to come, but I don't have a car and taking a bus from the north side of Milwaukee out that way is difficult if not impossible. If someone can give me a ride, I would appreciate it. Please pm if this is possible. Thanks very much.

I likely won't be able to make this event but have attended this session with Mark at the Lake Country WP meetup and it is AWESOME...!!!

Once you use DesktopServer you won't develop a site any other way! I cannot endorse this strongly enough!

I am new to Wordpress. I have used an older eMac and Pagespinner software to set up files in html format on my website at keephopealive.org. I have the book Wordpress for Dummies but it could just as well be a book on how to do brain surgery. I need to learn how to add Wordpress to my existing website for reader input and comments without crashing it. Where would a group meet? Library, restaurant, private home etc? How many people would attend?[masked]

I'm with you Conrad, I have a book... but I need hands on for a start. I'm new as well. Lisa M Krysiak
