Kitty’s Bio= My journey in yoga began as a preschooler, at my mother's side. Dance has also been a strong influence on me. However, yoga is my true passion and I have practiced it on my own for a good portion of my life. If I may borrow a phrase from the very wise Elesa Commerse, "There have been events in my past that have cast a shadow over my whole life". Yoga and meditation have truly brought the light back into my life. It always feels like home when I step onto the mat or sit in meditation. Bringing the practice out into my everyday living is the true blessing. Fifteen years ago, I began attending yoga classes to experience the sharing of yoga. Four years ago Jill Campana, encouraged me to attend teacher training for which I am very grateful and the journey continued.
I received my yoga certification from Kanyakumari Ayurveda Education & Retreat Center (USA), in Milwaukee, WI. I am registered with the National Yoga Alliance as a Yoga Instructor. My training is Iyengar based from "Light on Yoga" in the Hatha Yoga tradition with an Ayurvedic influence. I have additional certification in Pre-natal yoga and Chair Yoga. I have recently completed 12 months of study for Meditation Teacher certification, at the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago, IL. Studying under the guidance of Goswami Kriyananda is a life changing experience. I am honored to be continuing my education with Elesa Commerse in The Deep Study, a year-long immersion in the wisdom trainings of meditation.
I have had the honor of instructing students from ages 6 to 92, in groups and private lessons. It is a joyful experience assisting individuals in addressing their challenges to find comfort and stability. Teaching is an interesting experience, where both student and teacher are ever changing and evolving. Yoga is not so much about the goal, as it is about the journey getting there. I invite you to join me on the journey to find your connection to body, mind, and spirit. To quote the wisdom of Kate Schrader Shawgo, "The journey begins with the first step... make it forward".
