Let's deepen our experience of walking in the Santa Monica Mountains and being with others through silent, mindful walking meditation on the way out or up. And friendly talking, chatting, and yakking on the way down. Walking quietly in a group can be a powerful support for mindfulness. And being mindful while walking in nature--mindful of our steps, our bodies, our thoughts and feelings, or mindful of the nature around us--is a wonderful way to build and integrate awareness of our selves and the beautiful natural world. Then, after we pause at the furthest spot out, we'll come out of the silence and return with the freedom to talk and chat with each other--mindfully if possible-- as we walk back to the starting point. What could be better than being in nature, getting some physical exercise, cultivating mindful (and heart-ful) awareness, and getting to know fellow walkers?
