Making Peace with Your Past (Part 1) with Terryn Barill

Making Peace with Your Past – Part 1

Where are you holding painful memories & emotions in your body? Even when the mind pushes things away, our body remembers. Numerous clinical studies have shown direct correlations between physical illness and emotional states. Even when you’re not ill, your body is holding tension and stress. Join us and learn how to really and truly “let go”, and move forward with a new sense of peace and relaxation.

Terryn's Bio:

If you want to sit in a circle and sing Kumbaya, Terryn is not your girl. She also disapproves of reliving your trauma over and over again, or wallowing in what isn’t going right. She knows PTSD and trauma because she’s lived it, not because she read about it in a book, and that keeps her focused on things that make an immediate impact on your life and then help you to keep that forward momentum.

Terryn had 20+ years of DoD deployments, 18 years fully embedded with the US Marine Corps.  Her specialty was in toxic/hazardous materials / waste management, disaster response and emergency response (CBRN). It was during this period that she probably experienced her initial event that led to PTSD, although no one even mentioned it at the time.

Not willing to allow the doctors to “fix” her trauma symptoms with ever-increasing dosages of drugs and never-ending psychotherapy sessions, she began to look for ways to go beyond the symptoms and treat the cause.  Being an insatiable learner, she took all the workshops, read all the books, and got some really wacky certifications (some of which have come in handy).

After leaving service, she spent time as a volunteer EMT & emergency planner.  It was as a 9-11 first responder that the last piece of the puzzle fell into place. She then realized that if it took her 3 days to clear the trauma, what was going to happen to all those who didn’t have tools in the toolbox to handle something of this magnitude?

It is great to reach the level of acceptance and not ruminate the past as the perpetual present.
