Hello Sol Lovers,
Ok, Covered Bridge lovers & Vickery Creek newbees! We are going to change up the Mingling hiking routes and meetup location. We are going to park and meetup at Roswell's Riverside Sounds Concert parking lot in FRONT of the RESTROOMS. It's located at Riverside Park, 575 Riverside Rd. Roswell, GA. We will acquire our parking spots. Then, carry our blankets & lawn chairs, to a spot on the concert lawn to mark our later concert picnic spots. Upon returning from our hike, we will retrieve our picnic koolers and picnic goodies from our cars. The Vickery Creek hike will begin there at the parking lot, promptly, at 3:45 pm. We will cross the street and hike approx. 5 miles, on a few different trails. If you want to skip the hike and just do the concert, indicate such, in your attending remarks. & show up by 6:30 to join our group and receive a name tag. Just, look for a Mingling balloon beside plenty of playful critters!
Our hike will explore a moderate loop around the hills and banks along Vickery Creek, which powered one of the South's most important mills during the 1800s. With the exception of a few short steep stretches alongside the creek-ravine bluffs and gorges, the terrain is fairly level. The hike includes a stop at the spillway dam, which fed the mill wheel in a factory downstream. Supplying textiles for Confederate uniforms, the mill was a primary target for Gen. William Sherman whose troops destroyed the facility during the Civil War. The trails along Big Creek are very scenic with the sound of a rushing mountain creek and waterfall. Additionally, we will include a brief stop at the land-marked Covered Bridge, crossing our creek. The hike will be led by Memphis Russ, a seasoned explorer with intimate knowledge of the Vickery Creek Trials. Our proposed hike will be about 5 miles. See Mingling pictures from our past Vickery hikes, for a vision into your future.
Then, relax with music, dancing & personal stories over a sharing dinner picnic at the 'Hoochiee!
Riverside Sounds-- Sol Junky's Concert will begin at approximately, 6:45 pm.
