Are you a songwriter who wants to dig deeper, express yourself more vividly, and further develop your own voice?

Do you sometimes feel harsh or judgmental towards your own work, making it difficult to start something new?

Do you dream of breaking free and writing with more joy and connection while painting your stories with words and music?

WHAT PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING

"Monica creates a very open, supportive and disarming environment which makes something that can be so challenging and vulnerable feel safe and comfortable. I found this class to be incredibly inspiring in so many ways: the vibe, the exercises, the discussions along with the talent and open hearts of my classmates. I highly recommend it!"  Renee Harcourt, Blame Sally

"I am emerging with renewed creative energy, a quieter inner critic, an almost childlike enthusiasm for writing, and TONS of ideas. My writing is taking on a different direction, which was unexpected and I love it. I strongly recommend Monica's class for anyone who wants to break through the boundaries around their songwriting - or just have fun and let the words fly. Thank you Monica!" Robin Galante, SF Songwriter

"I'm really getting so much out of the class - thank you for all your mentoring and support. I don't know why I haven't pushed myself sooner... guess I wasn't ready.   I love the suggestions of fleshing out the story with some DETAILS!!! If there is anything I'm learning  it's how important and compelling the details are!" Amy Meyers, Bay Area Singer Songwriter

ABOUT THE CLASS

In this six-week course we will break through those blocks and uncover the original, unique voice that each or us has within us.  Through a series of in-class exercises we will dig through our own memories, experiences and impressions to find those golden nuggets that can inspire the songs we write.  We will focus on techniques such as "object writing", "location writing" and free-form writing.  The idea is to work on painting pictures with words, using all of our sense memories to describe our narratives more vividly. Out of the exercises we do in class we will "mine" for song ideas which you will work on outside of class.  I'll dedicate a certain period of time in each class to work on those songs with you.

ABOUT MONICA PASQUAL

Monica Pasqual is the winner of six Independent Music Awards and six Emmy Awards. Her song ‘Bird in Hand’ charted on both Americana and Roots Radio and was among the top 10 Folk Radio songs for 2011. Her songs have been used on numerous network television shows and she has composed soundtracks for PBS, The History Channel and National Geographic Television.   For the last 13 years Monica has been a member of the popular Bay Area Band, Blame Sally, touring the US and Europe extensively and releasing 8 albums.  Pasqual’s recent solo material has focused on haunting, yearning song-poems that explore her sense of place, love, loss, war and dreams.

"Like Joni Mitchell and Rickie Lee Jones, SanFrancisco's own Monica Pasqual proves that strong songwriting and stirring singing will take comand of just about any stylistic setting." - Derk Richardson, San Francisco Bay Guardian

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
