East St Paul (ESP) Speculative Fiction Meetup Group

Our Meetups are always on the second Tuesday of the month and the Davanni's Pizza off of I-94. The location is easy to find and has ample parking in addition to pizza. Feel free to drop by and check us out if you've been wavering about joining. We are always welcoming to "newbies".

The topic for discussion at our next Meetup will be "Switching Point-of-View"--is it an effective way to give the reader insights into your characters or does it just cause confusion?

The guidelines for submitting something for critique are:

  • We accept the first three submissions based on the earliest date. Deadline is Tuesday, May 7th.
  • Submissions must be listed in Files under MORE! on the Homepage. You have to be logged in on the Homepage to access the Files.
  • Items should be under 10,000 words and submitted in Word or RTF but not .docx or PDF.
  • Please preface items with [ESP Crit 5-14] so we know it's for our group.
  • Please insert page numbers so those doing critiques on a separate sheet of paper will have a reference point for their comments.
  • If submitting the continuation of a previous submission, remember to do a synopsis.  (The word count should be included in the 10,000 word limit.)

To critique submissions:

  • Locate the [ESP Crit 5-14] submissions in Files under MORE! I will send out an email the week before with the Meetup.
  • Print out a copy to make your edits and comments on. It's OK to change the format for the printout to save paper.
  • OR, make your comments on a separate sheet of paper to give to the author.

See you in May!

We had a good group of writers with valuable feedback that makes us all better writers!

Great group of people with excellent critiques and feedback. I haven't been able to attend this group for 3 months, so it was good to come back.

OK, last minute change of plans. I'm taking my darling out to dinner to make a little history of our own. We'll be on the town celebrating tonight. If I have the email addresses of the authors whose work I've critiqued, I'll mail them along.

    Life is good.

Hey I will not be there tonight. I'm actually in the hospital for a significant blood clot and am being treated with injections. Baby's okay but I'm not feeling too chipper

Oh no! We will miss you but take care of yourself first, of course. Take care.

I wish I could be there tomorrow night, but I'll be thinking of you while I'm in Chicago. I will definitely be there in June and to make sure I posted a story.

I DO wonder if we will EVER see you again Sue. The fates are working against us. Time to get out the incense and runes to foretell…

Wish I could be there. I am out of town at a conference. Have fun.
