East St Paul (ESP) Speculative Fiction Meetup

We had a great September Meetup with five newcomers joining us. The topic of discussion for our October Meetup will be (appropriately) Adding Suspense to Your Writing. This should make for some interesting input.

In other discussion: regarding submissions for critique, we decided that no submissions will be accepted for the following month until after the group has met. This is to prevent submissions from being posted for months ahead of time and to keep things equitable.

The guidelines for submissions are as follows:

• We will accept three items each month listed in Files under MORE! on the Homepage by October 1st. You must be logged in on the Homepage to access Files.

• They should be under 10,000 words and entered in Word or RTF (not docx or PDF). When submitting a continuation of of a previous work, please remember to add a synopsis. This would be included in the total word count.

• Please preface the entry with [ESP Crit 10-8] so we know it's for our group.

• Please add page numbers so those doing critiques on a separate sheet of paper will have a reference point.

To critique submissions:

• Locate [ESP Crit 10-8] entries listed in Files under MORE!

• Print out a copy to make your edits and comments on and give to the author. It's OK to change the format for your printout.

OR: you can make your comments on a separate sheet of paper to give to the author.

• There will be a 3-minute time limit on verbal critiques.

See you in October!

Hey guys, I see only two things are posted and we're a week away. I'll check back tonight and if nothing's there I'll put the next bit in, but I wanted to give fair warning first for those who may have forgot to submit.

I didn't give fair warning, but that was why I submitted too ;)

I looked up Divannis Pizza using the map button but now I am confused. Is it next to the mall like around beam avenue or is it on 94?

Ok, thank you so much! I didn't realize that White Bear Ave. went that far south. (I usually don't go past Beam Ave.) I'm so excited and looking forward to meeting you all!

Just a heads up to my fellow writers. At the University of St. Thomas Library (St. Paul Campus) on October 30th there is going to be an event from 3 pm - 4 pm. UST Faculty Alexis Easley and Shannon Scott will be discussing their recent book: Terrifying Transformations: An Anthology of Victorian Werewolf Fiction 1838-1896. I thought some of you might be interested :)
