Write Now! An Improv Writing Workshop and Game

  • June 17, 2012 · 12:00 PM

Suffering from Writer's Block? Need to do something new? Want to turn off your inner critic, push yourself and create a fun story now?  By popular demand, we've brought back Terry Faust for another demonstration of his Write Now! game.  Write Now! is a creative writing card game, designed to stimulate imaginative thinking and flex mental muscles.  In just 20 minutes, writers improvise a story from five cards drawn from the categories of character, place, event, item and motivation.  Afterwards, those that want to will share their stories and we'll have a quick reading.

The idea is not to craft a masterpiece but to use most or all of the card suggestions to construct a simple narrative. This presentation needs folks willing to write fast--it's not for everyone. But if you think you can manage quick thinking and a speedy pen, I can guarantee the results will be hilarious. Terry will award a Write Now! game to the writer who gets the best response from the group.

Terry's game is wild, odd and very inspiring of creativity. I had a great time, and enjoyed seeing all the new faces who showed up for this one!

I was asked to do a Write Now! creative writing game. It's fun. Is that still on, Hilary?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
