March Meetup - "Develop Your Protagonist"

Gang -- This month we present a follow-up to the successful "Develop Your Antagonist" with "Develop Your Protagonist" presented by Paul Azeti and Maggie Della Rocca. Paul and I will be running an abbreviated version of our all day workshop, based on Donald Maass's book and exercises. We will utilize small group sessions and in-session writing classes. Due to time restrictions, the meeting will be extremely structures, so the usual "meet and greet' will not be a part of this meeting, but we still welcome newcomers and first-timers. The meeting will start promptly at noon. If you haven't attended a Meetup at this location before, here's the scoop: Lunds in Uptown has a community room upstairs that is quiet, free and has great bus access. Even better yet, it has a fabulous deli but is not a restaurant. So we can brown bag our own lunches or buy a lunch there. The deli selection includes salads, sandwiches, soups and sushi. If you are going to be getting your food from Lunds, please arrive fifteen minutes early to pick out your food before the meeting. - Hmm, Jaye and the rest of the MinnSpec Organizing Team

Very thought provoking topics for character development. Session serves as a good seed for later thought. The small group sessions were nice, even though highly compressed, because they forced the participants to verbalize their thoughts.

Lots of great information - I loved the opportunity to split into small groups and discuss my work. I think I got more from that than from most of the regular meetups and workshops. Great work, Paul and Maggie, and I'm looking forward to the next one!

This was great. It helped me flesh out my protagonist in a way that I wouldn't have thouht of. Many thanks to Hilary for setting it up.

As we discussed, two hours probably isn't enough, a whole day *might* be too much.

Although it had a rather whirlwind pace (a half-day workshop would be perfect), this was a great session that helped me think through important character development details. I came out of it knowing several things about my protagonist that I never knew before--and more importantly, provided techniques for character development that I can re-use.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
