East St Paul (ESP) Speculative Fiction Writers Meetup

We had a great turnout for the January Meetup with lots of new members. For February, the topic of discussion will be "What's wrong with using passive voice?" We'll be looking at the downside and also scenarios where it can be effective.

The guidelines for submissions are as follows:

  • There is a limit of three items and the deadline is Tuesday, February 5th.
  • They must be listed in Files under MORE! on the Homepage. You have to be logged in to access Files.
  • Submissions should be under 10,000 words.
  • Please preface submissions with "ESP Crit 2-12" so we know it's for our group.
  • Please submit in RTF or Word but not doc.x or PDF.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

See you in February!

I went back and revised today. Guess I was on the extreme side. Decided to keep prologue and did some more world building through Moby's eyes since Serenity has never seen any of the world. So now it's 11,000 words instead of 10,000. Most of the other stuff I did myself before. Sorry everyone got the rough draft! Last minute decision! Symbiote's much more polished!

Excellent meeting. I loved having a few minutes to visit with everyone at the end.

Yes, it worked out really well that we had that extra time! It's a great way for sharing.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Do intend on making some changes, but I'm a horrible revisionist. I will either get down to it and do all revising in one extreme hour or I will take weeks. I plan on submitting my science fiction The Symbiote for next month since it's been picked up for review by 2 different agencies so I want to know what everyone thinks of it and why it seems to be the one attracting the most attention from agents.

Could you please let me know what to title my Symbiote file for the next meetup?

Can we join the discussion if we haven't written anything?

Very excited for this one. There is one particular agency I really want to shop Serenity out to so I really look forward to the feedback!
