What sort of stories do you write? And if you have anything published, tell us about it (even if it's not SF.) We love to hear about all your successes.

Most of what I write is fantasy, often for a young adult audience; my most recent NaNoWriMo attempt, however, was a feminist dystopia inspired by women's lot in Classical Athens. I love anything to do with fairy tale and mythology, and often use folkloric imagery in my poetry as well as in my fiction. I have had one poem published in the anthology Nothing But Red, and an academic article published on sex, beauty, and aging in Classical Greece and Rome.

What brings you to the SF Writers Meetup? Is there anything that you hope the group will do for you?

I am one of those writers who is better at starting pieces than finishing them or, even worse, revising them. I attend a free writing class at the library on Thursdays, which is good for getting me writing every week, but there is a nothing but positive feedback rule, which doesn't help us deal with criticism or polish our work (it's more of a process writing class than one focused on results). So I would like to get involved with a group with more emphasis on critique and publication, and if it addresses the particular needs of writers of speculative fiction authors, so much the better.

Introduction

I am a lifelong geek and academic who has recently stepped back into my creative writing to make up for my current creatively uninspiring job. I love to read all genres of fantasy, some mysteries, historical and mainstream fiction.
