What sort of stories do you write? And if you have anything published, tell us about it (even if it's not SF.) We love to hear about all your successes.

Right now I'm working on an urban fantasy novel: writing some, then realizing I need to do more work on the characters, setting, etc and working on that, then writing and researching some more... Until the last year or so I've written mostly academic papers and literary fiction, but I enjoy writing fantasy the most, so have chosen to focus my efforts in that direction. And, frankly, after long days at work, the last thing I want to do is write something that's not enjoyable! In the past my writing has leaned more toward literary fiction, and I've written one novel and many short stories and poems, all unpublished, mainly because I've never submitted anything for publication. The only thing I've had published is a poem in a school publication many years ago. My Master's Essay is listed in the library of congress and comes up for certain types of academic searches, though not officially published.

What brings you to the SF Writers Meetup? Is there anything that you hope the group will do for you?

I'm looking for a community of other writers to give and receive feedback, industry tips, moral support and to socialize with people who share some of the same interests. If I find even a couple of those I'll be more than satisfied. My top priorities right now are to find a writer's group to work consistently with for writing feedback and to just get more involved in a community of writers in general.

After a long hiatus from fiction writing to focus on my MA, I'm finally back to writing what I enjoy most--fantasy. I'm 30, single parent to a teenager, and have a day job unrelated to writing. My goal is for writing to eventually be my career.
