Failing a member from the area, we might try pitching an overall story about MNSpec to the Strib, MinnPost, or City Pages. Having an event in which members are actively selling books might interest a business or arts editor. Actually, we might as well pitch them as well as the Current. Also, I know the chief videographer at KSTP. I'll see if he thinks a book fair would make a good news story. If, after a few days, I don't see a response here about someone with a newspaper contact, I'll go ahead and send queries to the business and arts editors of the papers I've listed.

Even if we can't get interest in a story/news piece, we can still list the events with each of those papers. Not nearly as effective, but better than nothing.

Last call for volunteers from Bloomington/Edina/Eden Prairie/Richfield...

I've sent event info to the the Strib, City Pages, and MinnPost. My friend at KSTP passed the "MNSpec at the Book Fair" story idea on to KSTP's executive producer. I'm waiting to hear back. I pitched a story about MNSpec at the Book Fair to MinnPost. If they pass, I'll try the Strib and then City Pages.

Who all is willing to work the table with me? I plan to stay all day. Also, is there anyone who might be willing to give me a ride home to Hopkins?

I'm planning on being there, and could work the table with you for most of the day. Let me confirm with my better half and I'll let you know for sure.

Regarding promotion for the Bloomington Book Fest, things have changed somewhat for online event promotion since I last promoted Jagged Spiral shows. Many sites that used to let you add your own events have stopped doing that, but they have added in all the buttons for social media sharing.

* Bloomington Crow - http://www.gotothecro...
* T.C. Daily Planet - http://www.tcdailypla...
* Star Tribune - http://cal.startribun...
* Vita.mn - http://www.vita.mn/ev...
* City Pages - http://www.voiceplace...
* Eventful - http://eventful.com/m...
* MNartists.org - I added our event here: http://www.mnartists.... If you have a mnartists.org profile, you can attach it to the event listing.
* The Onion - does not have this event listed, and I see no way to list the event with them.
* Craigslist.com and Backpage.com. I did not list the event on these sites, but help yourself.

It is now up to MNSpec members to take the social media bull by the horns and help promote this event. Michael's post above has all the details, and the event website is http://bloomingtonwri... So blog, like, friend, share, comment and +1 away, and let's try to get a good turnout this year! This event may not be very big, but this is good promotional practice for future events.

Let's not overlook the real world in our promotion of this event. Tell any non-MNSpec authors about the inexpensive workshops and presentations, and tell all your fiction fan friends that they will be able to buy books directly from local authors.

And let's also not overlook another upcoming event: Terry Faust will be reading at Dreamhaven books next Wed. I hope to see many of you there as well.
