What is the files section of this website for?
Our files section allows us to share manuscripts easily and privately. We can also share other kinds of files, but manuscripts are the mainstay of this group. We're writers, and like to be able to share our writing with one another.
How do I find the files section?

link on the left menu on every page of this Meetup group. To upload, just click the "add a file
" link that appears above the main list of files. You can also remove or replace your own files by using the links provided.
Suggestions for File Formatting
This is our request for all documents submitted to the files section:
- Make them readable.
Preferably submit them in proper manuscript submission format. (You may choose to omit your home address or phone number on something posted for the group. Leaving your e-mail is a good idea, because it allows other members to contact you with an e-mailed critique if they miss the meeting.)
- Include your name on your document.
Even better, include headers on each page with your name, the story's name, and the page number, so that if anyone drops their pile of critiques, they can easily sort them all out again. (See manuscript submission format, above.)
- Use the description field.
Tell us whether it is published somewhere, if you are seeking a critique, or why you are uploading it.
- Rich text format is preferred over word.
We do have a few active members who are not microsoft users. If possible, please save and submit your files as .rtf rather than .doc.
- Limit viewing to group members for previously unpublished work.
We want no one to lose the option of selling first rights later.
What if I made changes to what I have submitted?
You should see a link next to your file that says "replace."
- Replacing a file will change its upload date, making it look like a brand new file.
It's a good idea to include the original upload date of your file in your description if you replace a file after a workshop submission deadline.
- Please use the replace option only for minor edits.
Some of us start our critiques fairly far in advance of the workshop, and will critique what we already have printed.
What are all the file prefixes for?
The prefixes are a sorting mechanism, to enable us to find files of certain types quickly:
- FUN [initials or last name]
These are files uploaded just for fun, where a full critique is NOT expected:
- Previously published stories.
Please share when and where the story was published in the file's description section.
- Works in Progress not seeking a critique.
This is most often done when the writer has shared an excerpt of the story at our regular Meetup, but wanted to give others the chance to read the full work.
The inclusion of the initials or last name of the author is to help people sort by author.
- CRIT [yy-mm]
These are stories or novel chapters uploaded specifically for our Writing Workshop.
- Upload these so that only group members can view them. (We do not want to hurt your chances for future publication.)
- Inclusion of the date tells us which session you are submitting manuscripts for. Please submit manuscripts well in advance of the critique session. Anything submitted after a deadline will be labeled as optional for critique.
- If you submit a file for critique, you are agreeing to also critique the other manuscripts that session. You are also telling us you will be there for that session, so please RSVP with a "Yes."
This is for files related to the running of this Meetup group. Not that there will be many of those, but it helps to have the category available.
The Organizer and Asst Organizers reserve the right to add prefixes for clarity to any files that are uploaded without them.
