Dinner and a Movie

Let's have a great night of food and a movie! Restaurant ideas? Post em below! This will be a great opportunity to get together and enjoy a night out getting to know each other.

I will probably try to do something like this monthly. Let me know if you want one earlier than January. I was hesitant to do one in December as I know that can be a tough month financially for some people.

Post your movie suggestions below!

1/1/14 UPDATE (Same as posted below):

We WILL be going to eat after the movie. However, I think it will be MUCH easier to decide once we know who all is coming, and then I can call the restaurant and let them know how many to expect before the movie starts. Plan is that we will meet, decide between Big Bowl and Good Earth (or somewhere else if majority decides), I will call the restaurant if needed, then post the location on here so that those who don't see the movie can join. Sound good?

1/7/2013 UPDATE

For all the folks wondering, we will be watching Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom unless we meet everyone unanimously votes otherwise. However, for now, this is the movie that has been decided. Keep checking for updates. There will be more to come :)

1/8 UPDATE  (also posted below!)

Super disappointing, but the Mandela movie will NOT be playing during Rosedale on the date and time we'll be there. Options are: American Hustle (5:00), The Hobbit (4:30), Her (4:20), Lone Survivor (4:05), and August: Osage County (4:10). Please note that this will NOT affect our meeting time. I will still be at the theater at 4pm, but people will just have more flexibility in arrival time  :)

1/9 UPDATE (also posted below)

We will be going to see American Hustle at 5:00 (based on the suggestions that I saw below!). Again, I will be there at 4:00, so feel free to come on over and hang out if you want to get there early :) If not, arriving around 4:45 would be a good option. I don't know what I will be wearing, but I will be standing in the lobby area. Can't find me? Call or text me at[masked] :)

I had a great time. I enjoyed the movie, the company, and the meal. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks for coordinating, Kiara!

Very interesting film, especially enjoyed Christian Bale's performance. Also enjoyed meeting other filmgoers, and enjoyed a great meal.

Had a great time. The movie American Hustle was great and the chatting and dinner afterwards was also great. Loved meeting everyone who came and I really look forward to doing it again.

Hi all! I am on my way to the theater how. Movie starts at 5, but I'll be in the lobby a bit early. I'm wearing a greenish/blue sweater, black coat, and a striped white and black scarf. If you can't find me, my number is[masked]-8681. I will have a sign :)

Do you think either of these places are going to be able to accommodate ~25 people with no advanced notice?

Good question. They will get about 2.5 hours notice, which is the best that I can do. Also, I understand that things come up. As such, I'm not expecting 25 people to actually show up to this event (though it would be nice)! I would hate to reserve space for 25 people, and then only 10 show up.

I've seen both the Hobbit and American Hustle. Hobbit is awesome (but travels a bit far from the book) and American Hustle's script and acting is almost breathtaking. Since I've seen them both, I'd prefer to see Her. Oh, and Big Bowl gets my vote.

Saundra and I live in south Minneapolis, and Kiara, who lives in southwest Minneapolis, is giving us a ride. Sounds like you live between Kiara and me. I suggest you email her about a ride as well. (Of course, I'm not making any promises for Kiara, but she's a warm and helpful person.)

I like granite city, panera bread is good variety and reasonable, good earth, outback, famous Dave's.

    December 26, 2013

  • Jan W.

I think Granite City, Big Bowl, Macaroni Grill all good. GC is fairly expensive. I kind of like the idea of seeing movie first and seeing who all ends up attending, and then picking a place to eat. But if we need to choose a place first, I would vote for Big Bowl.

Since we have some new options, my preferences are Good Earth, Ruby Tuesday, and Big Bowl, in that order. Of course, I'd still really prefer tag team wrestling after the movie with the winners choosing the restaurant.

    1 · December 26, 2013

    • Scot C.

How about a vote on which place to eat at? I vote Big Bowl. Good morning. Hope everyone's holiday brought joy to your heart. I just got done working two doubles with a total of 7 hrs of sleep.

I'd prefer NOT to eat Indian as I don't like that but any of the other options are fine with me. I think the idea of movie first and then dinner second is a good order as it allows for a lot more conversation and talking about the movie and stuff.

    December 24, 2013

    • Scot C.

I also agree that eating afterwards would add to the conversation. Depending upon everyone's budget, there's Granite City, Big Bowl, Romana's Macaroni Grill, Ruby Tuesday's, Green Mill, Flame Rotisserie, Chipotle and Pot Belly. Just to name a few.

Granite City is really good food and has big tables for a big group if needed. Ruby Tuesday and Green Mill are also great eating.
