This was a lot of fun. I will definitely be adding another night shift meetup. Sorry you couldn't make it Martin. I was looking forward to meeting you. Next time!

I'm definitely glad to hear people had a great time & everything went well. Not that I thought it wouldn't. I'm just happy our 3rd shift skeptics got a chance to have their own meetup. :)
And Martin, well...I'm glad I didn't risk getting pulled over to meet you. Heh. I really hope we get a chance to meet at some skeptical event in the future. ;)
And, of course, thank you Bruce for putting this event together!

Thanks for putting this event together. I got pretty involved in conversation at my end of the table and missed a lot of the other conversations, but it seemed like a fun group! If we have another of these, I'll definitely try to attend again.

Well aren't I silly. My wife and I are jet lagged, so after a day of museum visits we returned to our hotel for a nap. It was supposed to be an hour-long nap, and it was only 5 pm, so I didn't think to set the alarm clock. ...and then when my wife woke me, it was 11:30 pm. Damn!

Sorry everybody! And Melissa, hope you'll find your license soon! We're in town until Monday, but I'm afraid our schedule's pretty full.

Oh kids, we may have a problem...I can't find my drivers license. I think I left it at the DMV (I hope) today when I got my stupid tabs. I am so sorry. I am a bad organizer.

Martin...I am so sorry. How long are you in town for?

please feel free to text me & tell me what a shamefully irresponsible adult I am [masked]

So I just learned from skepchick last night that the Non-Dr. Andrew Wakefield was just recently in town to lie to Somalis about vaccinations. In the middle of a measles outbreak. Perhaps this should be the topic that we focus on? What do you guys think?

Wow TAM 5.5 will be a tough act to follow... Hopefully half a dozen or so skeptics can keep you entertained for an evening. Looking forward to meeting you there!

Many thanks for kind words! Myself & the Mrs. look forward to meeting everybody. I was at TAM 5.5, so this will be my second skeptical event in the US.

Well MinneSkeps, I'm proud to announce it looks like we will have a special out of town skeptical guest joining us. Martin Rundkvist is a Swedish skeptical blogger & archaeologist and a board member of the Swedish Skeptics Society.
    Check him out, here:

Looks pretty awesome to me...praiseworthy skep-cred. Can't wait to meet him!

I just got off the phone with Duplex and they would like us to make a reservation. So when we're a week or so out I'll give them a call and let them know how many people we have coming.

I agree with Craig, Shana. If you want to set up a Partying Skeptically event for a Friday, I will probably attend. The more people we have starting things the better.

And I totally forgot what my second critique was going to be...
    :P

That's not a terrible idea. I'd have two criticisms though. First this would be about getting skeptics together and talking. Generally speaking Friday nights are not a good time to be chatting and sharing enlightened (or not) ideas with one another at a bar. After 10. Because that's when things get loud and party-like. And while that's awesome, and I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a Partying Skeptically meet, I want this meet to be more about getting together and chatting over a pint.

Thanks for setting this up, Bruce! The more events the better. @Shana: Go ahead and setup an idea and when we get enough people interested in a Friday event, go ahead find a venue and schedule it.

  • Shana

What about Fridays? Then no one has to worry about getting up? Just a thought...

I would like this too! Also, there are some great late night happy hours in the uptown area starting at 9 or 10pm.

Craig: I agree. What about the first Thursday instead? That would put the first Night Owl Drinking Skeptically at Thursday April 7th. As a matter of fact I'll put it up there now.

Shana: I would love to do it as early as 8 but I don't get off of work until 9 and couldn't get to Uptown before 10. Plus it gives other second shifters a chance to hit this meet. I hope you can still come. The more the merrier!

I suggest that you pick a different Thursday than our regular drinking skeptically event. How about the 1st or 4th Thursday?

    March 19, 2011

  • Shana

I like this idea, but while the regular one is too early, 10 is too late. 8 or so is my sweet spot.

  • Erica M.

The regular Thursday meet-ups usually move to the bar across the street after the cafe closes at around 830 or so... Bruce: were you thinking about doing this on another Thursday night than the Drinking Skeptically? It would be good to add more events to our calendar... I too work 2nd shift and think this is a great idea :)
