Camping/hiking Wyalusing State Park, WI - Oct. 9-10

Wyalusing State Park sits on a bluff 500 ft. above the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers confluence and is always a spectacular site in fall. The photo posted was taken last fall from up in the Treasure Cave that goes a short ways into the bluff, looking down at a person silhouetted against the river valley and fall colors. Just one of the fun things at Wyalusing! **THE CAMPING PORTION OF THIS MEETUP HAS NOW BEEN SET UP AS ITS OWN EVENT ON THE IOWA BOARD. Your sign-up here is fine, but I suggest you check it for info on how many people are going from that group AS WELL AS A LINK TO A MAP SHOWING WHERE GROUP CAMPSITE E IS LOCATED The link to the camping event(Iowa meetup) http://www.meetup.com... The link to the hiking part of the event(Iowa meetup) http://www.meetup.com... Hi - this is a trip planned by the Iowa group at the link above. But a few of us wanted to camp, so it's evolved to include one night of car camping. We have Group Campsite E for Saturday night, Oct. 9. There is a hike planned at noon on Sunday, Oct. 10. Likely there will be other activities Saturday either on your own or with a group. Campsite check-in begins at 3 p.m. I will initially allow up to six campers, as I want to see how sign-up is going on the original listing. I understand we have four people now and are allowing a total of 8 from here. (yes 2 of us are counted on both sites, but we know that! ; P ) FYI, the campsite cost will be split among campers when onsite. Figure at least $10. Other costs you would pay yourself include a daily WI state park sticker or season pass (good through Dec. 31) Food is on your own. Since this is car camping, you can bring those warm blankets or propane heaters (make sure tent is vented well by keeping a door partially open). Any car pooling is on your own. Please check the link for the original trip. Thanks! Lisa

Great weekend at the park. The weather was perfect. While it was hot on top of the hills (80's) it was cooler in the valleys for hiking and the leaves were at 100% color.

MN and IA groups met for a great time camping - eating - taking in an astronomy program and using telescopes at the park - hiking - and just sitting around taking in the unbelievably nice weather!

For those of you who are afraid of the cold, you can get one last camping trip in this weekend. It is now predicted to be in the 80's on Saturday at the park and only down in th 50's at night. Where is our nice cooler October weather?

Hi! I'm a new member and would love to come along this weekend. Would it be okay to bring my dog? Well behaved golden retriever with own backpack :) She's also quite useful for extra body warmth on cold October nights. . .I checked the State Park website and it seemed ok by their rules so long as she's leashed. Of course I'll just leave her behind if necessary. Thank you! Alison

I won't be leaving Lake City until early afternoon on Sat. and will be returning Sun PM. If anyone wants to ride down with me they are more than welcome. It should be a great drive down along the river with the colors changing.
