Announcing a new Meetup for The Minneapolis/St. Paul Backpackers Meetup Group!

What: Oberg Mountain Trail Head Migrating South to Caribou River Wayside

When: Friday, May 7,[masked]:00 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Greetings Backpackers!

Are you ready for another exciting adventure on the Superior Hiking Trail this season? We will be going on another fun-filled adventure covering 27.5 miles the weekend of May 7-9.

Let?s hike from the North to South starting at the Oberg Mountain Trailhead and migrating south to Caribou River Wayside.

This is an INTERMEDIATE to ADVANCED backpacking event. Please have knowledge of gear and being in the wilderness for several days. Remember everybody goes at their own pace, but we are still a group and it is expected that we look out for each other!

If you sign up for this trip, please be flexible to a schedule change in the event of group decision. We have a jam packed weekend, so please be open to waking up early so we can start hiking by 8am on Saturday and Sunday. Depending on the availability of campsites and/or group needs the mileages of each day may vary slightly.

Depending on the number of people to sign up for this trip, I might have a carpool...gear...etc meeting. Closer to, I will send out an email with questions to gather some information such as carpooling, phone numbers etc. Then, I will send out an email with the final details.

No dogs will be allowed on this trip for safety reasons.
You will be responsible for your own food.
A state park sticker is required. These can be purchased $25 for the whole year.
Due to wear and tear on the driver?s vehicle, the driver does not pay for gas. The gas costs will be split between the passengers.

Julianne has been an awesome organizer who has paid to keep this group up and running for years! We all owe her a huge thank you! She has never asked for donations, but I feel it is only fair that each person chips in a dollar or two here and there to help keep this amazing group going! This is not mandatory?only a suggested donation for those going on trips. Any bit helps!

Tentative Agenda:

Friday, May 7th ? Carpools should leave no later then 10am. Meet at the Caribou River Wayside (mile marker 70.5) by 2pm to drop off vehicle(s) and shuttle to the starting trailhead at Oberg Mountain Trailhead.
We have a 4.1 mile hike to the Springdale Creek Campsite. We should be able to get to camp before dark.

Saturday, May 8th ? Leave camp and backpack to the Federberg Creek Campsite (12.6 miles?maybe further if it is early enough and the majority would like to push further).

Sunday, May 9th ? Leave camp and backpack to the Caribou River Wayside (10.8 miles). Go out to dinner at a local dive and drive home. We won?t get back home until late Sunday night.
