Minneapolis Roleplayers September Newsletter

From: Jack
Sent on: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 2:59 PM
With the September Meetup just a week away, the organizers of the Minneapolis Roleplayers Meetup Group wanted to let you guys know about the many things going on at the MRMG site:

Message Boards Return!

By popular request the message board is back! Mario reactivated the message board on August 2nd, based on feedback we received from the members. So if you haven't checked-in for awhile, stop by the site to check out the messages or maybe post your own. The message board is a great way to tell people that you?re looking for a game, or players, or whatever, and to share interesting news, funny (RPG related) stories and more.

It is still possible to email the group using the mailing list as well either from the site or by sending email to [address removed].

Staff Changes

Two of our previous assistant organizers have left and we've added a new one, Logan! We wish Joel and Kipple the best as they pursue other things and give a warm welcome to Logan. To find out more about our newest AO, see the message thread Staff Changes and Supporting the Meetup and you can check out Logan's Profile.

Member Survey

Currently, the MRMG organizers are kicking around and researching a bunch of new ideas for events, but due to having a limited amount of time we need to pick several to focus on in the upcoming months. You can help us do that by voting in the Member Survey. Currently the poll is split into two parts, one about the monthly meetup and the other about our new event ideas. Stop in and provide your feedback so we can make the meetup better. The survey will remain open until October 9th.

New Logo Contest!

The time has come for a new group logo. While the old car by the tree logo may hold some sentimental value for some of the oldtime members (or not), we think its time has passed. So, we have decided to ask you, the members, to design the logo you think best represents our group. For more details on what we are looking for and how to submit an entry, check out the thread "New Logo Contest". Also, we already have at least one submission by Magnus so check that out in the photos section as well.

Purging Old Message Threads

We have a new poll up about removing old threads that are no longer relevant from the message boards. If you have an opinion on this subject, please let your voice be heard by voting in the poll. This poll will remain open until September 30th.

Supporting the Meetup

We would like to take a quick moment to discuss one of those things that is not very popular, donations. Many of you are likely not aware that it costs between $140 to $240 per year to maintain our meetup group on For the past year or so Mario has been covering this cost (very graciously and without compliant, I might add). Logan and I are in agreement that he should not have to do that. To that end, we are soliciting donations from the members. Let me state clearly, that we currently have no plans to require donations or dues from the members, but rather ask that you consider what you get out of the group to guide you. Getting hooked up with a gaming group that meets for several hours a week should be worth at least as much as a latte or a movie ticket.

Donations can either be submitted through the site by using the "Pay with PayPal" link on the group's Welcome page or starting with the September meetup, we will "pass the hat" for anyone that wishes to donate.

Call for GMs

We are hoping to make a list of game masters interested in presenting demo games or adventures at meetup events. If you would be willing to do this please contact Jack and tell him what gaming system(s) you would be prepared to GM and what genre (fantasy, sci-fi, pulp, etc.). Once on the list, we may contact you occasionally to run games. We?ll try to give you plenty of warning, and you can turn down the request if the timing doesn't work out.

That's all the news that print to fit for now so we hope to see many of you on the message boards, voting in the polls, and most importantly, attending the September Meetup!
