-Advocating rape as acceptable political violence.
-Pardoning individuals who advocate rape as political violence because they are inspirational in other ways.
-Refusal to hold known sexists, misogynists, and sexual abusers accountable for their actions because they are “heroes” of the movement.
-Refusal to “out” sexists, misogynists, and sexual abusers for fear of hurting and/or being ousted from the animal liberation movement (ALM).
-Women turning their backs on each other when issues of sexism arise.
-Women wishing to engage in sexual relations with the movement’s supposed “heroes,” as opposed to engaging in their own heroic deeds for other species.
These are current realities of the ALM. This open discussion attempts to answer the question: “Why?” Why do we, no matter our sexual identity, allow these issues to continue? Why do many silently accept the unacceptable? Why is woman hating a foundation of a movement in which women are the activist majority? And finally: What are we going to do about it, if anything?
Please attend this event if any of the above rings as true, untrue, polemical, divisive, diversionary, important, insignificant, or vital.
*N.B.: We are using the terms women and men because those gender dualisms seem to be the areas where these issues most commonly arise. However, this event aspires to be inclusive, so no matter one’s sexual identity (or non-identity), all are welcome, even if to challenge gender essentialism.
