The Minnesota Independent Scholars Forum (MISF) has been assisting independent scholars since 1983. While our focus is on the independent scholar, anyone who supports independent scholarship is welcome to join our organization, whether they regard themselves as scholars or not. We particularly seek individuals who are interested in thoughtful, rational discussions of consequential topics to create an intellectual environment which we believe is healthy for independent scholarship. For the scholar, MISF provides a wide range of programs, opportunities to present research, editorial support, fiscal agency for grant recipients, collaboration, and other useful features. Our membership has consisted of teachers, writers, attorneys, homemakers, and people in many other roles. For more information, see our website at MNIndependentScholars.org.
MISF also sponsors several Study Groups which meet regularly to discuss topics within a particular field or with regard to particular issues. Three of these are also on meetup: the MISF Philosophy Study Group, the MISF History Study Group, and the MISF JFK Assassination Study Group. Anyone who is interested can join these groups. Membership in MISF is not required. (Note: Membership in the MISF meetup group is not the same as membership in the Minnesota Independent Scholars Forum. For those who would like to belong to the latter, our dues are an affordable $25. Nonetheless, one can participate in our programs without being a member of MISF; all our programs are free and open to the public.)
