Well... instead of having a Spring Organizational Meeting this year, I think we should try a Spring Social instead. Sounds like more fun to me. We can probably have a short question and answer session if there is interest, especially for new members.
Juniors has appetizers & good food for those that may want to order something. The Delcounts Band starts playing at 8PM for any that may want to uphold the ancient sailor’s tradition of drinking & dancing. The singing of "What do you do with a Drunken Sailor" will not be allowed at this event however. It hard enough to find a place that allows sailors
Welcome to the 5th sailing season of the Minnesota Sailing Alliance. Considering this long winter, maybe we should add some ice boats to the fleet!
I think that we are in a much better position this spring compared to last year. We may have added 4 or 5 boats to our fleet, meaning that we may be able hold more events and get more members out on the water. We will just have to see how active our new skippers turn out to be. I have had interest from Skippers in Bayfield, on the St Croix and on Pepin. I would like to set a goal of 75 events this season.
Tom will continue as our Charter Captain this year with scheduled weekend trips in the Apostles. Tom will be submitting a schedule this year so that we can better coordinate the timing of the charter trips with any of our other Apostle Island Skippers that may want to schedule events. I am hoping that we can keep conflicts to a minimum in this way.
Financially, we had enough in the bank last Fall to make it through the Winter. We will be watching expenses a little more closely this year. I do not think that we will do the boat show again next year. Not much return for a sizable investment. We also will not be starting the Racing Program at Minnetonka Yacht Club this year, just too expensive to buy the Race Boat, Storage & Racing Fees.
As always, we are anxious to hear of ideas from any of our members for Events. Please feel free to suggest ideas and enter into discussions in the comments section below. In the past we have had ideas for social events and events in; Door County, Lake Minnewaska, St Croix, North Superior and North Channel Huron as well as many others. We will probably kick off the year again with a “Sailing Picnic” somewhere with trailer boats.
I will be Posting Dues and Waivers as “events” in the next few weeks and maybe provide a little more explanation in the postings. As always, Dues & Waivers are not required for social events or meetings but are required for all “On the Water Events”
Max the Sailing Dog has been automatically removed from the sailing club by Meetup Corporate because he has not visited our web site or attended an event for 6 months. Just a word of warning: If it can happen to Max, it can happen to anyone!
For me sailing is a very peaceful experience, except when it’s exiting and fun, or when the weather or gear dictates otherwise. I am going to try to make a concerted effort this year to better respect the feelings of others and would ask that members would also consider the advice of the new guy in Rome and not be too harsh in their criticism of other sailors. I know we can have the best year ever.
I have left space below for Caroline, Matthew, Carl, Doug & Beth to add there own thoughts.
Looking forward with great anticipation to a great sailing season (should the ice ever melt). Wishing everyone great fun, a safe season, and much friendship.
